M. E. Gandy to Lucy + C. A. Brock Release

The State of South Carolina
To all persons to whom these presents may come, I, Martha E. Gandy, the wife of Thomas A. Gandy, of the County of Darlington in the State aforesaid send Greetings:
Whereas the late commercial firm, known as C. A. Brock & Bro. composed of Charles A. Brock and Pleasant A. Brock were seized and possessed of various Town Lots in the Town of Cheraw in the State aforesaid, and whereas the said Pleasant A. Brock has departed this life, Intestate leaving as his Heirs at law his Widow Martha E. who has since intermarried with the said Thomas A. Gandy; his mother, Lucy Brock and his brother the said Charles A. Brock, and whereas the individual half interest, of the said Pleasant A. Brock in the said Lots has thereby become desirable amongst his said Heirs at Law and whereas it has been agreed by the sad Charles A. Brock, as Senior of the said Partnership and by the said Heirs at Law to divide the said Real estate, so as to set apart to the said Martha E in Severalty, her share therein, and whereas the said Martha E. has agreed to take, in full of her share therein the two Lots known as Numbers Nine (9) and Ten (10) and in consideration there to release to the said Lucy Brock and Charles A. Brock all her right, title, share and interest in the remaining Lots know as Numbers Eleven (1) Twelve (12) two hundred and forty-six (246) two hundred and eighty (280) two hundred and eighty-one (281) here after more particularly described .
Now know all ye that I the said Martha E. Gandy for and in consideration of the premises and in further consideration of the sum of five dollars to me paid by the said Lucy Brock and Charles A. Brock (the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged) have remises, released, released <sic> and forever quitted claim and by these presents do remise, release and forever quit claim unto the said Lucy Brock and Charles A. Brock, all my right, title, share and interest of, in and to all those lots and parts of lots, situate, lying and being in the Town of Cheraw, in the County of Chesterfield and State of South Carolina known and designated in the plan of said Town as Lots numbers two hundred and forty six (246) two hundred and eighty (280) two hundred and eighty-one (281) Bounded on the North by Market Street, continued East of Front Street, on the East by Lot number two hundred and eighty-two, on the South by Lot Number three hundred fifty-eight and two hundred and forty five and on the West by Front Street; also also <sic> all that part of the Lot designated on the plan of said town as Lot Number eleven (11) which was conveyed to the said C. A. Brock & Bro. by James C. Craig as Commissioner in Equity for the District, now County of Chesterfield, by Deed bearing date the Seventh day of April A. D. 1868, having a front of one hundred feet - on Front Street and running back two hundred feet - and bounded on the North by Lot number twelve, on the East by Front Street, on the West by the remaining portion of said Lot number Eleven, also all that part of Lot designated on the plan of said Town as Lot number twelve (12) which was conveyed to the said C. A. Brock & Bro. by William L. T. Prince and Henry P. Duvall, as assignees of Theodore F. Mulloy by by <sic> Deed bearing date the thirteenth day of April A. D. 1870 having a front of one hundred feet on Front Street and a depth of two hundred & seven (207) feet and bounded on the North by Lot number Thirteen, on the East - by Front Street, on the South by Lot number Eleven and on the West by the remaining portion of said Lot - number Twelve, together with all and singular the rights, members, hereditaments and appurtenances to the said premises belonging or in any wise incident or appertaining. To have and to hold all and singular the said premises unto the said Lucy Brock and Charles A. Brock as Tenants in common, their heirs and assigns forever. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this thirteenth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight-hundred and seventy-five.

  • Heirs at law his Widow Martha E. who has since intermarried with the said Thomas A. Gandy; his mother, Lucy Brock and his brother the said Charles A. Brock
    • Widow Martha Eugenia Horne Brock Gandy is:
    • The widow of Pleasant A. Brock
    • The current Wife of Thomas Ashton Gandy
  • His mother, Lucy (Morris) Brock = Mother of Pleasant A. Brock and Charles A. Brock (her only children, two sons)
  • His (Pleasant A. Brock)  brother the said Charles A. Brock
Not mentioned in the above is Lucy’s deceased husband Alsey Brock (1815 – 1858).  Pleasant A. Brock passed away on 28 February 1873.

Lucy (Morris) Brock is my 2nd Great Grand Aunt, her two sons are my 1st Cousins 3 times removed.
