It’s Family Time~The William Riley Huneycutt and Lydia Brooks Family

William Riley Huneycutt, born Mar 1830 in Montgomery County, North Carolina was a son of Marcus I. "Mark” Huneycutt and Charity Dry. He was a farmer.

On 14 May 1851, William Riley married Lydia Brooks, daughter of Mary ‘Polly‘ Tucker and David Brooks. Based on a statement made in David Brooks Will; Lydia was not his biological child but was treated equally with her mother in the Will.

“… sees there is more property than will, answer my family, to sell the same and make an equal division of it with my wife and children. Lydia the daughter of my wife, not being an heir in law, I give and bequeath to her an equal part with my wife and children in the above devised property, and…”


William Riley Huneycutt and Lydia Brooks had the following children:

i. Daniel Franklin Huneycutt, born 15 Jun 1850, Big Lick, Stanly, North Carolina; married Effie Isabelle Hatley, 18 Sep 1910, Albemarle, Stanly, North Carolina; died 8 Dec 1934, Big Lick, Stanly, North Carolina. 
Note: The BIRTH YEAR FOR DANIEL is from his tombstone and is NOT CORRECT. His parents married in May 1851 and the 1870 Census shows he was only 17 in 1870. The correct BIRTH YEAR is probably 1852.
ii. Margaret Louise Huneycutt, born 1 Jul 1854, Big Lick, Stanly, North Carolina; married Sion Speight, 1873; died 15 Jul 1928.
iii. James A. Huneycutt was born about 1858 in Big Lick, Stanly, North Carolina.
iv. King David Huneycutt was born in 1862 in Big Lick, Stanly, North Carolina.
v. Jensie Caroline Huneycutt, born Mar 1864, Big Lick, Stanly, North Carolina; married Franklin Yow, 1885; died 5 Mar 1944, Furr, Stanly, North Carolina.
vi. Lydia Martha Huneycutt, born 1866, Big Lick, Stanly, North Carolina; married George Crisco, aft 18 Jun 1900; died 24 Sep 1927, Albemarle, Stanly, North Carolina.
vii. Sophronia A. "Fronie" Huneycutt, born 1867, Big Lick, Stanly, North Carolina; married John Henry Simmons, 1 Sep 1901; died 1934, Stanly County, North Carolina.
viii. Sarah J. Huneycutt was born in May 1870 in Big Lick, Stanly, North Carolina. She died before 1880.

Lydia Brooks Huneycuut died between 1888-1891 and William Riley Huneycutt died after 1900. No tombstone or exact date has yet been found to document their demise. 

William Riley Huneycutt and Lydia Brooks are my 2^nd Great Grand Uncle and Aunt.
