The Death of Reverend Lewis Gainey

Lewis Gainey
Died, in Chesterfield, S. C., 17th May [1851], Rev. Lewis Gainey, in the 81st year of his age. He was for about 45 years a serious minister of the M. E. Church and was esteemed for his patriarchal simplicity of manners and uncompromising firmness and purity of religious character. This life was not without clouds and shadows, but through all he was calm and cheerful. He was ardent in his attachment to the church and was ready to serve her to the best of his ability. As an evidence of his punctuality and zeal he traveled some 8,000 miles in attending one church during the course of his long ministry. His end was peaceful, full of trust in God’s holy promises.

Lewis Gainey was married to Hannah Elizabeth Kendricks-Jackson. They were married about 1833 after the death of her first husband, David Crawford in 1832.
