Rufus Franklin Huneycutt was a Christmas gift for his parents Tobias A. Huneycutt and Elizabeth Miriam “Mary Ann” Huneycutt arriving on Christmas Eve 1850. He was their first borne child. In a few short years the family including Rufus had grown to seven with a brother and five sisters.
On 12 March 1872, at the age of 21, Rufus Franklin Huneycutt was united in marriage to the lovely Miss Sarah ‘Sallie’ R. George, daughter of Col. William R. George and his wife, Matilda.
Rufus Franklin owned a printing business in the city of Charlotte where he was well known and respected. In 1872, the year he was married, Rufus was one of the owners of the city newspaper, The Charlotte Observer. His son, Mr. James Eagle Huneycutt, was a prominent member of the Board of Aldermen in 1915, the year his father died.
Rufus Franklin Huneycutt and Sarah R. George had the following children:
i. Minnie Ellen Huneycutt, born 1 Mar 1873, Charlotte, Mecklenburg, North Carolina; married John H. Ray, 17 Sep 1889, Charlotte, Mecklenburg, North Carolina; died 10 Mar 1929, Charlotte, Mecklenburg, North Carolina.
ii. William Rufus Huneycutt was born in Aug 1874 in Charlotte, Mecklenburg, North Carolina. He died on 14 Jul 1875 in Charlotte, Mecklenburg, North Carolina.
iii. Hattie T. Huneycutt was born in Jan 1877 in Charlotte, Mecklenburg, North Carolina.
iv. James Eagle Huneycutt Sr., born 2 Dec 1878, Charlotte, Mecklenburg, North Carolina; married Annie Valette Beattie; died 21 Oct 1945, Charlotte, Mecklenburg, North Carolina.
v. Mary J. Huneycutt was born about Mar 1880 in Charlotte, Mecklenburg, North Carolina.
vi. Charles Franklin Huneycutt, born 7 Nov 1881, Charlotte, Mecklenburg, North Carolina; married Mary Jane McManus, 7 Dec 1902, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina; died 7 Feb 1937, Charlotte, Mecklenburg, North Carolina.
vii. Maggie Huneycutt was born in Feb 1884 in Charlotte, Mecklenburg, North Carolina.
viii. Susan Frances Huneycutt, born 30 Aug 1888, Charlotte, Mecklenburg, North Carolina; married Edward Alexander Brooks Sr., 27 Jun 1912; died 17 Feb 1976, Charlotte, Mecklenburg, North Carolina.
ix. Claudia Ethel Huneycutt, born 19 Oct 1891, Charlotte, Mecklenburg, North Carolina; married Joseph Waylan Wiggins; died 19 Mar 1969, Charlotte, Mecklenburg, North Carolina.
Rufus Franklin Huneycutt is my 1st Cousin 3X Removed.
