It’s Family Time~The Elisha Davis Family

Elisha Davis and his his family didn’t leave much of a footprint the years they spent on this good earth. Elisha, son of Jonathan Daniel Davis and his wife was born about 1824 in Chesterfield County South Carolina. he was the fifth of seven children of which two died as infants. He had two older brothers and a sister.

Elisha married Elizabeth Knight abt 1850 but it had to be the latter part of 1850 because his first born child didn't arrive until July 1851.

Elizabeth Knight was born in Oct 1829, a daughter of Moses Knight and Temperance Eddins.

Elisha Davis and Elizabeth Knight had the following children:

  i. Sarah Temperance Davis, born Jul 1851, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Samuel Eldred Gulledge, 1872; died 7 Mar 1922, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.

An exact death date has not been found for Elisha Davis. Nor has a tombstone or obituary been found for him or his wife. All we know is that based on Census records he died between Aug 1876 and 4 June 1880. On 31 August 1876 Elisha Davis witnessed the Last Will and Testament of William Short. The census was taken on 4 June 1880 and Elisha is missing from the household and Elizabeth Davis is listed as a “Widow”. Their place of burial is unknown.

Elizabeth Knight Davis died sometime after 2 March 1901. On 2 March 1901 Elizabeth Knight Davis executed a Land Deed (DB 18: 595 & 596)  transferring 42 acres of land to H.E. Horne. This was the her daughter Hattie Ellen Davis Horne.
