Mrs. Mary Elizabeth McRae Brock of Clio Passes

Benjamin Franklin Brock and Mary Elizabeth “Mollie” McRae were married 27 February 1879 in Barbour County, Alabama. Benjamin Franklin, born 22 Aug 1855 was the son of James Brock and Martha Jane Teal;  Mary Elizabeth “Mollie” McRae, born Nov 1855 was the daughter of John C. McRae. 

Benjamin Franklin Brock, age 71, pioneer citizen of Barbour County, passed away in a local hospital on the night of 11 March 1927. The mother of his children, Mrs. Mollie Brock died on 21 January 1932.

MRS. MOLLIE BROCK OF CLIO, PASSES AWAY 
Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon at the Presbyterian church for Mrs. Mollie Brock, a respected and much beloved citizen living near Clio. The last rites were conducted by the Rev. Young, of Troy. Mrs. Brock was born October 25, 1855, and was 77  years old. She was the daughter of John C. McRae, being among the first settlers of Montgomery, and he was chief of police of that city during the civil war period. Mrs. Brock witnessed the inauguration of Jefferson Davis. She was among the first women employed in the commercial world of the South, being employed at type-setter by the Montgomery Advertiser at the age of fifteen years. Mrs. Brock leaves to mourn her death one sister, Mrs. Bettie Sheehan, of Montgomery, and the following children: Fred and John Brock and Mrs. Homer Owens, of Clio; Grady Brock, of Brundidge; Mrs. Jack Davis, Dawson, Ga.; Mrs. Allen Dickerson, of Hatcher Station, Ga.; 17 grand children and one great grand child. The remains were laid to rest at Pea River cemetery with Jackson and Hasten of Brundidge in charge.
