The Wilson Matthias "Tise" Furr Family

Wilson Matthias "Tise" Furr was born on 18 Jul 1804, a son of Paul Furr, Jr. and
Rosanna Peck of Cabarrus County, North Carolina.
He died of Asthma in March 1860 according to the 1860 Mortality Scheduled. His tombstone shows his death date to be 16 March 1860 at the age of 55 years 5 months and 28 days. NOTE: His Birthdate or age is wrong; If you calculate using his age (55y 5m 28d) and death date of 16 March 1860 you will find that if calculates to a BIRTHDATE of 17 September 1804.

Wilson Matthias "Tise" Furr and Mary "Polly" Page were married on 17 Jan 1829 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. Mary "Polly" Page, daughter of Uriah Page and Grace, was born in 1804 in North Carolina.

 

Wilson Matthias Furr and Mary Page had the following children:

 

                  i.  Elizabeth Caroline Furr, born Apr 1823; married Solomon Pless; died 1907.

                 ii.  Malinda Lovina Furr, born 19 Mar 1826, Virginia; married James Wade Love, abt 1845; died 6 Oct 1863, Stanly County, North Carolina.

                iii.  Wilson Mathias Furr Jr. was born on 24 Mar 1829. He died on 17 Jun 1864 at the age of 35. Wilson served in the military Company "D", 28th NC Infantry.

               iv.  Israel Jackson Furr was born on 29 Apr 1832. He died on 24 Feb 1904 at the age of 71.

                 v.  Lawson Alexander Furr, born abt 1834; married Martha Green, 27 Feb 1853, Cabarrus County, North Carolina; died 6 Dec 1864, Elmira Prison, Elmira, New York.

                vi.  Levi Lee Furr, born abt 1836; married Elizabeth Smith, 20 Jan 1853, Stanly County, North Carolina; died 10 Feb 1915, Furr, Stanly, North Carolina.

               vii.  John J. Furr was born on 12 Aug 1838. He died on 10 Aug 1862 at the age of 23.

              viii.  Ephraim H. Furr, born abt 1840; married Martha I Barbie, 18 Dec 1859, Stanly, North Carolina; died bef 25 Mar 1863. Ephraim enlisted 29 July 1861 and was discharged 31 Sept. 1861. His early discharge and death are most likely related.  

                ix.  Mary Serena Furr, born abt 1842; married Thomas Irvine Love, 9 Oct 1865; died 23 Aug 1866, Stanly County, North Carolina.

                x.  Allen M. Furr was born about 1844. He died KILLED IN ACTION-CIVIL WAR on 13 Dec 1862 at the age of 18.

If you look closely, you will see that Mary (Page) Furr lost her husband in March 1860 and 5 of her seven sons in or during the Civil War. Only Israel Jackson and Levi Lee remained of her seven sons.

Mary “Polly” Furr died about 15 Feb 1866 at the age of 62 in Stanly County, North Carolina. This receipt from her estate shows the purchase of her Coffin on 15 February 1866.

Matthias and Mary Furr are buried at Flat Rock Lutheran Church Cemetery, Locust, Stanly County, North Carolina.

 

Mary (Page) Furr is my 3rd Great Grand Aunt.
