It’s Family Time~The Christopher Sides Family

Christopher Sides was borne abt 1829, a son of Daniel Sides and Esther Dry. He was their 3rd born child and Christopher had eleven siblings of which two were older.  There is a website that contains specific birth and baptism date for Christopher but I was unable to verify the dates. The same website contain a specific marriage date for Christopher and his wife.

Christopher Sides married Mary Ann Tays about 1858 in Iredell County, North Carolina. Their only child, William F. Sides was born on 18 Jan 1859 in Statesville, Iredell, North Carolina. He died on 25 Oct 1881 at the age of 22 in Bates County, Missouri.

Christopher Sides died of disease in the Civil War. He enlisted 1 Aug 1862. His official Military Record on Fold3 shows that he died of Disease on 2 October 1862 at Winchester, Virginia.  https://www.fold3.com/image/49833049

However there are 2 other documents containing different dates
for his death.

• SIDES, CHRISTOPHER, Private
  Resided in Iredell County where he enlisted on August 1, 1862, for the war. Died at Paris, Virginia, October 2 or October 30, 1862, of disease. [State Troops, Volume 11, page 406.].

• Death Date Source: Obituary for Mary Ann Tays Sides Mills. Christopher died 23 October 1862.

Mary Ann probated her Husband’s Estate on 6 December 1862 and then she and her son, William F. Sides, relocated to Missouri. There on 28 December 1874, Mary Ann (Tays) Sides married Elcania Mills in Lafayette County, Missouri. She died July 18, 1914 in Caddo County, Oklahoma.

Christopher Sides is my 1st Cousin 4X Removed.

The Last Will and Testament of David Davis, Jr.

 Mecklenburg County North Carolina June 23d 1828

Be it know to all whom it may concern that I divide my plantation into three parts To my son John I divide that part of my land, lying on the West side of the hollow below his fields, crossing the Creek a little above, the lock ford to Joseph Ewarts line. The other two divisions lying on the North & South sides of the Clarks Creek running by my spring.This Creek to be the dividing line of these parts. Silas my son to have choice of the last divisions. The other to be equally divided in valuation between my daughter Elizabeth S. & my grandson Thos. Green Barnet. To Elizabeth and her heirs, should she have any, I allow the half of the proceeding parts.The Smith tools & wagon I wish to be a common stock for the use of all the members of my family; all at the same time contributing their proportional part of labor or expense to repairing them when necessary; or forfeit their right to the use of one or both. My Wife Jane I allow to hold my mansion house during her life and them to have the disposal of all the household furniture.

David Davis was borne about 1758, a son of Rev. David Davis and his wife, Jane Miles.

David married Rebecca Jane Willis on 20 January 1781. His grandson, Thos. Green Barnet,  named within this Will was the son of  of daughter Jane and her husband William Graham Barnett. 

Research data pertaining to the Davis surname during this time period is rare, elusive, hard to find and verify. So this document is a “Works in Progress.” You should verify all data to ensure its validity.

Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth (Davis) Laudie

 MRS. MARGARET LAUDIE

 Services Will Be Held Wednesday in Independence 

Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Laudie, 83,  of 1205 West Lexington avenue, Independence, died yesterday at the Independence sanitarium. She was born in Chesterfield, S.C.  She moved to Utah in 1901 and to Independence in 1913. Her husband, Charles L. Laudie, was killed in a motor car accident In Independence in December 1932.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. M. E. Mangum, 1040 West Maple avenue, Independence, and Mrs. Lillie Burton, Los Angeles; two sons, C. Lucius Laudie,  Provo, Utah and Andrew Laudie, Amsterdam, Mo.; a sister, Mrs. J. W. T. Rivers, Chesterfield and fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Mrs. Laudie has eighteen descendants in the armed services.

Services will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday at the Roland Speaks chapel Independence. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery.

Margaret Elizabeth (Davis) Laudie was borne 28 March 1860, a daughter of Carroll Washington Davis and his 2nd wife, Mary B. Boatwright. 

Margaret Elizabeth Davis and Charles Lucius Laudie are shown to have married in1880 according to the 1900 Census Charlotte Ward 1, Mecklenburg, North Carolina.

Margaret Elizabeth Davis and Charles Lucius Laudie had the following children:

 i. Mary Eleanor Laudie, born 24 May 1882, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Joseph Edward Mangum, 25 Dec 1898, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; died 3 Jun 1967, Clay, Missouri,.

 ii. Charles Lucius Laudie, born 18 Jan 1886, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Fern Halliday, 2 Jul 1914, Salt Lake City,Utah; died 7 Dec 1968, Provo, Utah County, Utah.

iii. Callie Lillie Laudie, born 12 Feb 1894, Goldsboro, Wayne, North Carolina; married Arthur Reginald Burton, 31 Dec 1913, Farmington, Davis, Utah; died 2 Oct 1957, Los Angeles County, California.

iv. Andrew Blakely Laudie, born 6 Sep 1895, Charlotte, Mecklenburg, North Carolina; married Ada Erickson, 6 Jun 1916, Independence,Mo.; died 7 Nov 1984, Multnomah, Oregon.

v. George Franklin Laudie was born on 12 Nov 1896 in Charlotte, Mecklenburg, North Carolina. He died on 24 May 1897 at the age of 6 months in Charlotte, Mecklenburg, North Carolina and was buried in Chesterfield Cemetery, Chesterfield, Chesterfield County, South Carolina.

                                      To all to whom these presents shall come or be made known, Or whom the same may in anywise concern, I, Hugh Craig, Judge of Probate, for the County of Chesterfield in the said State, Send Greetings: Whereas P. H. Brock on of about the Fourth day of January in the year one thousand eight hundred and seventy did exhibit his Petition in the Court of Probate at Chesterfield C. H. in the Country of Chesterfield and sate aforesaid, for the division or sale of the real Estate of Stephen Brock deceased, situated in said County of Chesterfield in the town of Cheraw, and whereas upon the filing, of said Petition or summons in Petition was ifsued from the said Court and served upon the heirs and representatives of the said Stephen Brock and the Cause, being at issued before the Honorable Court aforesaid, came on to be heard on the thirteenth day of January one thousand eight hundred and seventy when the said Court, after a full hearing thereof, and mature deliberation in the premises, did Order, adjudge and decree that the Lot or parcel of land hereinafter mentioned and described, should be sold at Public Auction, by the Sheriff of Chesterfield County, on the terms,  for the purposes mentioned in said Decretal Order, as by reference thereto, in the Registry of the said Court, will appear;  And the said P. F. Stafford Sheriff of Chesterfield County, after having duly advertised the said Lot or parcel of Land for sale, by public outcry, on the seventh day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eighth hundred and seventy Did then openly and publicly and according to the custom of Auction, sell and dispose of the said Lot or parcel of land below described, unto Peter H. Brock for One Hundred dollars being. At that price, the highest bidder for the same. Now Know All Men, That I, the said Hugh Craig, Judge of Probate, of Chesterfield County, in consideration of the premises, and also in consideration of the sum of One Hundred Dollars Paid me by the said Peter H. Brock  the receipt whereof is herby acknowledged,Have granted, bargained, sold and release, and by these presents Do grant, bargain,sell and  release unto the said Peter H. Brock and his heirs and Assigns, All the right, Title, interest, claim and demand which the said Stephen Brock in his life time and at the time of his death, had of, in and to a certain Lot or parcel of Land, situate in the Town of Cheraw and State aforesaid, known and distinguished in the plan of said Town as number Two Hundred and forty-six (246) on Market Street contained, reference being had to the plan of said Town will more fully appear Together with all and singular the rights, members, hereditament, and appurtenances whatsoever, to the said premises belonging or in anywise appertaining and the recessions and remainders, rents,issues and profits, benefits claim and demand whatsoever, both at Law and in Equity of the said Stephen Brock and of all the parties to the said suit, and of all persons rightfully claiming or to claim the same or any part thereof, by,from, or under them, or either of them. To have and to Hold the said Lot or parcel of land with its hereditaments, privileges and appurtenances, unto the said Peter H. Brock his heirs and assigns forever. In Witness, whereof I, the said High Craig, Judge of Probate for Chesterfield County, under and by virtue of the said Decree have hereunto Set my Hand and Seal, at Chesterfield C. Peter Haley Brock is the oldest of 5 sons borne to Stephen Brock and Nancy Smith. Stephen Brock parents are not proven; his wife, Nancy Smith is the daughter of Wiley Smith and Mary [LNU]. Stephen and Nancy had six children. Stephen Brock died 11 Septembert 1867. His wife, Nancy, died 12 Janauary 1878. They are buried in Old Saint Davids Episcopal Church Cemetery.

Stepen Brock is most likey my 2nd Great Grand Uncle.

It’s Family Time~The John Morrison Brown Family

John Morrison Brown was born on 10 Jul 1836 in Clarke, Mississippi. He was the 5th of six children borne to Francis D. Brown and Elizabeth Coulter. He had one
brother and four sisters.

John Morrison Brown and Martha Ann Kellar were married on 7 Mar 1861 in St. Tammany, Louisiana.

Martha Ann Keller was born on 24 May 1848 in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana. She was a daughter of Henry Kellar.  She died on 6 Feb 1909 at the age of 60 in Silsbee, Hardin, Texas.

The 1900 Census shows that John and Martha Ann had 10 children of which only 6 were living in June of 1900. So far I have only identified 6 of the 10 children.

John Morrison Brown and Martha Ann Kellar had the following children:

i. Elizabeth Brown was born about 1862. She died before 1880 at the age of 18.

ii. Richard Henry Brown, born 15 Jan 1865, St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana; married Sarah Jane Collier, 6 Apr 1884, Hardin County, Texas; married Rebecca Jane Collier, 11 Apr 1901, Tyler County, Texas; died 17 Apr 1945, Silsbee, Hardin, Texas.

iii. Mary Jane Brown, born 22 Apr 1867, Louisiana; married Samuel Franklin Lakey; died 30 Jun 1920, Texas.

iv. James Brown was born about 1871.

v. William Brown was born about 1873.

vi. Naomi Brown was born about 1873.

Martha Ann (Kellar) Brown died on 6 Feb 1909 at the age of 60 in Silsbee, Hardin, Texas. John Morrison Brown died on 17 Feb 1910 at the age of 73 in Kountze, Hardin, Texas. They are buried in the Knupple Cemetery, Silsbee, Hardin County, Texas.

John Morrison Brown is my 2nd Cousin 4X Removed.
