Obituary:

Died, in this county, on the 10th of June, 1865, Saml. A. Davis, aged 60 years.
Through a painful illness of ten months he was a patient sufferer, a resigned Christian. He was a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, a conscientious Methodist, and a pillar to the church he had attended from childhood. His seat there is vacated for a higher one in the congregation of the redeemed. The honest and fervent trust in God which so greatly consoled him in the heavy cares of life, was the joy of his dying hours; and gently leaning on the arms of his Father, God, he passed away earth and its sorrows to rejoin the early called and beloved of his heart. He was a devoted husband, a tender father and honorable citizen. In all life's varied relations his duty was well performed, and now in the home of the faithful he has the reward of the good.
Death entered first the happy circle to claim the buoyant son, the darling brother---and in nine brief weeks re-entered the beloved and aged father. Desolate now is the home around which cluster fond recollections and tender affections. Time soothes all sorrows, but can’t restore “the beloved sleepers of the silent city” to the lonely hearts that laments their early lost and vainly sigh for the treasures of the church-yard graves. Thank God for the hope of reunion beyond this vale of tears with the few who have been true and tender with us here.           J. J. D.
