52 Cousins~The Gideon Job Falkner and Nancy Sellers Family

Nancy Sellers was the first borne child of John Sellers and Henrietta Norwood. John and Henrietta were married about 1803 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. John and Henrietta had a large family of 14 children of which Nancy was the oldest.

Just across the Northern border of South Carolina in Anson County, North Carolina lived the family of Asa Elijah Faulkner and his wife Elizabeth Huntley. Thet had a small family of 3 sons and a daughter. One of those sons was Gideon Job Falkner, borne 10 November 1806.

Gideon Job Falkner and Nancy Sellers were married about 1830. This is an estimated dated based of the birth of their only child, Nancy Jane, who birth date is recorded as 9 March 1833. This date is recorded on Nancy Jane‘s FindAGrave memorial and should be used with caution. The source of this birth date is a Fulton County, Kentucky Death Certificate #26413 for Nancy Jane Falkner Phillipps.

Sadly, what was to be a happy moment in the lives of Gideon and Nancy turned into a tragic event when daughter Nancy Jane survived but Nancy (Sellers) Falkner, her mother, passed away.

Gideon Job Falkner next married Jane Tosh about 1838 in Carroll County, Tennessee. Again, this is based on said birth date of their first borne child, a daughter, borne about 1839. Keep in mind that this is the edge of the frontier, and many records were never completed or has otherwise been lost. No Marriage Certificate or Licensee has been for this marriage.

With the death of his wife Nancy, Gideon, a farmer, needed a wife to care for his baby daughter. In 1833, Gideon married Jane Tosh of Carroll County, Tennessee. Jane Tosh was borne 20 October 1804 in Christian County, Kentucky. She was a daughter of John Tosh and Margaret Ann Johnson.

Gideon Job Falkner and Jane Tosh had the following children:

i. Margaret Falkner, born abt 1839, Carroll County, Tennessee; married Dr. John Orr, 18 Oct 1865, Carroll, Tennessee; died bef 1878.

ii. Martin Falkner was born about 1843 in Carroll, Tennessee.  He died on 9 Dec 1915 at the age of 72 in Atlanta, DeKalb, Georgia.

iii. Elijah Falkner, born 22 Nov 1846, Carroll, Tennessee; married Elizabeth A. Scott, 13 Feb 1872, Carroll County, Tennessee; died 20 Jan 1913.

In the early 1880‘s Gideon sold his land to his son Elijah Falkner. Both he and Jane died within days of each other. Jane (Tosh) Falkner died on 1 December 1884; Gideon Job Falkner died on 5 December 1884.
