Land Deeds are a genealogical “gold mine” overlooked by many family historians. A case in point is the land deed above whereby all the children of John Jackson and Elizabeth Lacy are named. A bonus is the naming of the spouses of the daughters.
The children of John and Elizabeth (Lacy) Jackson are selling their interest in land they had inherited at the death of Griffith Lacy. The Land Deed names John and all his children. Not mentioned is John’s wife Elizabeth Lacy who had passed away in 1824. Griffith Lacy was the brother of Elizabeth (Lacy) Jackson.
The Children of John Jackson and Elizabeth Lacy are:
- Henry JACKSON
- Sarah JACKSON who married Wilson WEATHERS
- Keziah JACKSON who married Benjamin W. THOMPSON
- Thomas JACKSON, b. 1 June 1804 d. 12 Sept. 1822
- Jane JACKSON who married an unknown GRAHAM
- Lucretia “Creasy JACKSON

It’s Family Time~Henry Thompson Boatwright
Henry Thompson Boatwright was born 17 October 1906, a son of Eugene Thomas Boatwright and Emma Frances Previtte. Henry was their 3rd born child. He was a farmer by trade as was most South Carolinians during that time.
Henry lived a short life due to what was known at ‘that time as “Bright’s Disease”. Henry suffered from Kidney failure. It is not known if Henry suffered from the disease his entire life or just later in his short life. Regardless, this is long before the creation of “a dialysis machine” to purify and clean blood. Henry passed away at the very young age of 21 on 24 September 1928.
It would be some 15 years later before the concept of a machine to clean the blood was conceived by a Dutch physician in 1943.
[Quote] “The history of dialysis dates back to the 1940s. The first type of dialyzer, then called the artificial kidney, was built in 1943 by Dutch physician Willem Kolff. Kolff had first gotten the idea of developing a machine to clean the blood after watching a patient suffer from kidney failure.” [unquote] 1
The technological advances we, as a nation, have achieved in the past 100 years have been phenomenal. The medical advances have added years to our lifespan.
Henry Thompson Boatwright was my 1st Cousin twice removed.

Anson County NC Trust Deed~W. A. PURVIS & Wife to Thompson & Moore
During the mid to late 1880, Trust Deeds were used for putting liens or mortgages on the farm or other named items in order to borrow money. That money was then used to purchase seeds and other needed items in order to plant, grow and harvest a crop.
On 2 July 1884, my 2nd Great Grandfather William A. Purvis and his wife Sarah Jane (Graves) Purvis signed such a lien/mortgage with a local firm known by the name of Thompson and Moore.
In the below Trust Deed, William and Sarah mortgaged - One tract or parcel of land situate in the county of Anson, State of North Carolina adjoining the lands of W. J. McLendon on the north, J. D. Rhine on the east and W. J. Purvis on the South and West containing fifty acres more or less
To obtain $70.00 dollars at a rate of 8 percent annum in order to plant a new crop daring the next planting seasons.
the said W. A Purvis and wife Sarah J. Purvis have bargained and sold and by these present do bargain, sell, assign and convey to the said Thompson & Moore partners, their heirs and assigns the following property to wit: One tract or parcel of land situate in the county of Anson, State of North Carolina adjoining the lands of W. J. McLendon on the north, J. D. Rhine on the east and W. J. Purvis on the South and West containing fifty acres more or less, to have and to hold the above-described property with all the privileges and appurtenance thereunto belonging to them the said Thompson & Moore partners their heirs and assigns forever

Little Known Fact~Milly and Christine McCoy
The story of Milly and Christine McCoy is unknown to many and only a small number can truthfully say they know the story.
The co-joined twins were borne on 11 July 1851. At the age of 10 months, the twins were sold to John C. Purvis of Chesterfield, South Carolina. Thus John acquired the twins about May 1852.
On 10 March 1854, John C. Purvis transferred the twins to J. P. Smith of Anson County. This change of ownership was documented in Deed Book 15, page 132, Anson County, North Carolina.
They were well cared for and educated during their youth and became free women in 1863 with the Emancipation Proclamation.
The twins traveled the world entertaining their audiences with song and dance. They were billed as:

It’s Family Time~The Michael M. Davis Family
Michael M. Davis, borne 20 September 1867 was the second born child and firstborn son of William Alfred Davis and Nancy J. Hurst.
In his early manhood, he left Chesterfield County and migrated to Kaufman County, Texas. There he met and married Magnolia Rose “Maggie” Morris in 1895.
I haven’t found a marriage certificate for Michael and Maggie. The marriage year (1895) came from the 1900 Census for Kaufman County whereby Michael & Maggie indicated they had been married for 5 years with 2 children both living.
Michael was a farmer his entire life. The 1930 Census showed that he and Maggie owned their home.
Michael M. Davis and Magnolia Rose Morris had the following 4 children:
i. Lola C. Davis was born about 1897 in Kaufman County, Texas.
ii. Shirley Mae Davis, born 25 Jun 1899, Lawrence, Texas; married John L. Jones; died 1 May 1946, Terrell, Kaufman, Texas.
iii. Bessie J. Davis, born abt 1904, Kaufman County, Texas; married William Alex Stark; died 23 Sep 1966, Paris, Lamar, Texas.
iv. Fannie Irene Davis was born on 28 Aug 1908 in Lawrence, Kaufman, Texas. She died on 19 May 1929 at the age of 20 in Terrell, Kaufman, Texas. Fannie was a student and only 20 years 8 months 23 days at the time of her death.
Michael M. Davis died from chronic hypertension and a coronary occlusion on 5 May 1838. No tombstone has been found nor does his death certificate show the cemetery he was buried within; only, that he was buried in Terrell, Kaufman County, Texas.
Magnolia Rose “Maggie” Morris Davis died on 27 September 1963 in Paris, Lamar County, Texas. She was buried in West Side Cemetery, Terrell, Kaufman County, Texas. Her husband, Michael, is most likely also buried in this Cemetery.
Today, there is no West Side Cemetery listed in Terrell, Kaufman County, Texas.
Michael M. Davis is my 1st Cousin 3 times removed.
