Chesterfield County Civil War Pensions

All known Civil War Pension Files for South Carolina, including Chesterfield County, are on file at the SC State Archives and History.

Today, I found an alphabetical listing of the recipients from Chesterfield County on the Chesterfield County Genealogy Trails Website.

The CONFEDERATE SERVICE Pension Application, Chesterfield County, South Carolina can be accessed here:

If you find one of your ancestors on the above list; then, your next step is to obtain a copy of the pension file from the SC Archives. These files generally consist of two pages and can be ordered/purchased from the SC Archives & History.

However, they are also available  on-line and can be accessed and downloaded free here:

When you open the SC Archive search page it will look like this in your web browser:

Let's say that your ancestor is the first person listed on the pension List - Adams, Arimenta of Jefferson.
On the SC Archive page (see screen capture above) , go to the second line -  Individual
In the block enter last name, comma, first name
Adams, Arimenta
Then click SEARCH at bottom of page
That will bring up this page

On the far right side of this page is the following words underlined: Online images available
This is a hyperlink; click on this hyperlink and it will take you to a copy of Arimenta Adams Pension Application.

S126088: Confederate Pension Applications

ADAMS, ARIMENTA OF JEFFERSON, CHESTERFIELD COUNTY APPLICATION FOR PENSION FOR JEFF J. ADAMS' SERVICE IN COMPANY A, FIRST S.C. REGT.

Now, I know these two files are too small to read; but if you place your mouse pointer on these images and double click you will get the full readable image.

When you get the full image up; you can place your mouse pointer on the image and right click your mouse; select – SAVE IMAGE AS and it will save the image to your computer and then you can PRINT IT locally on your home printer.

In the case of Arimenta Adams above:
 page 1 will download as - S12608802425a
page 2 will download as - S12608802425b

If you like, once it's downloaded you can rename the file.  I do hope this is helpful and find your Civil War ancestor file. If you have any problems contact me by e-mail and I will assist you in downloading the files.
