Sunday's Obituary: Great Grandma Mary



Mary Hulda Previtte was born 5 Jan 1861 to John Washington Previtte and Elizabeth"Bettie" Davis Previtte. She married William James Purvis about 1879. They were enumerated on the 1880 census, he was 16 years old and she was 19. She died 29 July 1838 in Morven, Anson County, NC and was buried at Zoar United Methodist Church Cemetery.  Mary & William had 7 children, 4 girls and 3 boys; one daughter died as an infant, their last-born.  

MRS. W. J. PURVIS - Mrs. Mary Hulda Privette Purvis aged 77 years, passed away Friday night at the home of her son. Mr. J. W. Purvis, of Morven, after a long illness. Surviving Mrs. Purvis are the bereaved husband, Mr. William James Purvis; one son, J. W. Purvis, and three daughters, Mrs. Erwin Brock of Chesterfield, S. C.; Mrs. Lucian Deese and Mrs. John Lang, of Morven. She was a daughter of the late Mr. John Privette and Mrs. Bettie Davis Privette, of Chesterfield County, S. C.
The funeral service was held Saturday afternoon at three o'clock at the home; with Rev. J. P. H. McNatt and Rev. C. E. Stevens in charge. Interment followed in the Zoar cemetery in Chesterfield County. A large congregation attended carried many beautiful floral designs. Pall bearers were Messrs. T. L. Niven, David Griggs, Ellison Short, Baxter Gardner, Luther Kanipe and W. P. White. The flower bearers were Mrs. Jarman, Mrs. M. D. McLendon and Misses Myrtle Deese, Lillie Mae Deese, Ila Paris and Cora Deese.
