This house was completed in 1858 as a residence for a Mr.
Austin, a lawyer from Pennsylvania. Local legend says Union troops attempted to burn the house during the Civil War but
stopped when told by a slave woman it was built for a "Yankee". Some evidence of the fire remains visible today.
