Saturday’s Spotlight~Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Previtte


John Henry Previtte was born on 19 Jul 1873, a son of John Washington Previtte and Elizabeth “Bettie” Davis Previtte. He was the seventh of eleven children with 5 sisters and five brothers.

In 1896, John Henry married Mary Huldah Davis, a daughter of Elisha Blakely Davis and Mary Jane “Molly” Eddins. Mary Huldah was 3 years younger than her husband and was age 20 when married.

On 1 October 1899 their first child a son was born. They would have 6 children; four daughters and two sons.

The children of John Henry Previtte and Mary Huldah Davis are:

i. Henry E. Previtte was born on 1 Oct 1899 in Anson County, North Carolina.He died on 1 Aug 1900 at the age of 0 and was buried on 1 Aug 1900 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.
ii. Mary Elizabeth Previtte, born 1 Jul 1903, Morven, Anson, North Carolina; married Joseph Luther Morris; died 24 Dec 1989, Morven, Anson, North Carolina.
iii. Joanna "Annie" Previtte, born 1 Nov 1905, Morven, Anson, North Carolina; married Otto Goldman Russell; died 3 Nov 1979, Morven, Anson, North Carolina.
iv. Jesse Walter Previtte was born on 31 May 1908 in Morven, Anson, North Carolina. He died on 2 Sep 1971 at the age of 63 in Cheraw, Chesterfield, South Carolina. He was buried on 4 Sep 1971 in Patrick, Chesterfield, South Carolina.
v. Lula May Previtte, born 28 Sep 1911, Morven, Anson, North Carolina; married Gordan Garrison Gardner; died 14 May 1993, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.
vi. Bessie L. Previtte, born 7 Sep 1915, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Allen J. Crowley; died 13 Nov 1981, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.


Mary Huldah Davis Privette passed away on 13 September 1933. Her death certificate shows that she died suddenly. Huldah was buried at Zoar United Methodist Church cemetery. 1 2 3
 
DC - Hulda Davis Previtte

John Henry Previtte died 28 June 1951 in Chesterfield, South Carolina. His death certificate shows his death was due to Arteriosclerosis. A review of John Henry’s death certificate reveals a fact that I was not aware of – it lists his wife as Mrs. Emma Tucker. 4 5 6

John was buried beside his wife, Huldah Davis Previtte, at Zoar United Methodist Church cemetery.

John Henry Previtte is my Great Grand Uncle; the brother of my Great Grandmother Mary Hulda Previtte Purvis.
