The Daughters of Lucretia Huggins Therrell

Know all Men by these Presents, That I, Mary Boan daughter of Lucretia Therell applicant for pension late of Chesterfield Districthereby constitute and appoint Col. M. Thompson       my true and lawful Agent and Attorney, to prosecute the Claim of my mother for any amount of Revolutionary Pension, or Increase of Pension, that may be due; and I hereby authorize my said Agent to examine all papers and documents in relation to said claim, on file in the Departments at Washington City, or elsewhere; to file additional evidence or arguments; and to receive the Certificate which may be issued for said Claim, which Certificate I wish made payable to her surviving children: Welthy Brown Abigail Therell and Mary Boan; to appoint one or more substitutes under him for the purposes herein expressed; and to do all things that I might or could do were I personally present. Hereby ratifying and confirming all that my said Attorney and Agent shall lawfully do in the premises.

On this fifteenth day of February A.D.1853 before me, the subscriber, a Justice of the Peace in and for the County aforesaid, personally appeared Mary Boan and acknowledged the foregoing Power of Attorney to be her act and deed, for the purposes therein stated.

This document, found within the pension file of Lucretia Therrell, widow of Moses Therrell, Revolutionary Soldier (R-10489) clearly states that in February 1853 Lucretia and Moses had three surviving children, all daughters, namely Wealthy Brown,  Abigail Therell and Mary Boan. 

The name of Mary [Therrell] Boan husband is not known; but, research shows that  Rebecca, Effy, Mary, Diana ‘Ann’ and  Alice were her daughters. There are most likely more children, whom as of today, have not been identified. 

While we have this document that clearly show the existence and marriage of a Mary Therrell to an Unknown Boan many on-line trees makes no mention of Mary Therrell Boan. I did find on-line documents showing her as born in 1783 and passing away on 11 Apr 1845. 



However, the document above dated 15 February 1853 clearly proved that she passed away sometime after 15 February 1853. 

While no concrete proof or single document has been found naming the husband of Mary Therrell Boan; the most likely candidate is Christopher Boan.
