Today’s subject is The Chesterfield County, SC Estate of Minerva Copeland, 1867.1

Minerva Copeland was born in 1821, a daughter of John Copeland and his wife Nancy. She passed away in October 1867. Her Mother petitioned the courts for letters of administration of her estate. Her father was no longer living having passed away sometime before 1860.

The Petition of Nancy Copeland
Sheweth that Minerva Copeland the daughter of your petitioner, departed this life about the ______ day of Oct. 1867, having while she lived and at the time of her death, divers goods, chattels and credits, upon which there has been no administration – your petitioner therefore prays that Letters of Administration on her estate be granted unto her according to the usage and practices of this court.

Chesterfield County} Judge of Probate
Personally appeared Nancy Copeland before me who being duly sworn on the Holy Evan of Almighty God, made oath that she would produce to show the appraisers who shall be appointed by the Judge of probate and inform them of all and singular the goods and chattels of Minerva Copeland deceased, which already have or may hereafter come into her hands, pofsefsion or knowledge before the day of making the appraisement – and that the said Minerva Copeland died without any will so far as she knows or believes – and that she will well and truly administrative all and singular the goods, chattels, rights and credits of the said deceased and pay all her just debts, so far as her goods & chattels will extend and the law requires – and that she will make a just and true inventory of all such goods and return a just account when thereunto required.
