It’s Family Time~Benjamin and Temperance [LNU] Brock

It's Family Time
Benjamin and his family are enumerated in the 1840 Census for Chesterfield County with a family household consisting of the following composition:

1 - Males - 5 thru 9  [1831-1835] (Benjamin, b. 1834)
2 - Males - 10 thru 14 [1826-1830] (Hezekiah, b. 1827;???)
2 - Males - 15 thru 19 [1821-1825] (Stephen, b. 1820, James, b. 1822 )
1 - Males - 50 thru 59 [1781-1790] (Benjamin, b. 1790)
1 - Females - 10 thru 14 [1826-1830] (Martha, b 1829)
1- Females - 50 thru 59 [1781-1790] (Temperance, b. 1800)

While the1840 Census does not list the names of individuals within the household you can see that we have re-constructed this family based on the age and sex of each individual within the household with one minor exception and that is the oldest female within the household.

In 1850 this is the family listing and the Census shows Temperance, the female, to be Benjamin wife and at age 50 was born in 1800; not 1781-1790 as shown in 1840.

Many on-line trees shows that Benjamin's wife Temperance was Temperance GAY. I have researched this family for 40 years. There is no known document that refers to Benjamin's wife as Temperance Gay. If anyone does have such a document I would love to see it.  There are 2 land deeds in Anson County, North Carolina (Deed Book “W”, Page 151-152 & Deed Book “W”, Page 147-148) one of which is land being sold to his son James and neither deed refers to a wife or spouse.

Benjamin Brock was born in 1790 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina. His parents are unknown. About 1814, he married Temperance [LNU](Last Named Unknown). This marriage year is based on the birth of their firstborn, Alsey Brock, b. 10 September 1815.

There is a Benjamin Brock that served in the War of 1812. The records for this Benjamin Brock needs to be reviewed and evaluated to see if he is our Benjamin Brock.
