th Mississippi Infantry on 24 August 1861.

James M. Purvis survived the war and returned home to his family to find that those furlough home had resulted in two more children. James M. Purvis died 18 Jan 1909 in Smith County, Mississippi. He was buried in the Rock Bluff Cemetery, Smith County, Mississippi.
