Mrs. Lavisa Gardner an aged lady of the Shiloh section died at her home on Sunday afternoon, and was buried at Mt. Olivet Methodist Church on Tuesday morning. The funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. L. Tyler, assisted by Rev. Paul T. Wood. Mrs. Gardner was the wife of the late John Gardner, who died about ten years ago. She is survived by the following children , J. A. and C. B. Gardner, who live near Chesterfield; Calvin Gardner of Lydia; R. Clifton and Wade Gardner of Charlotte, NC; Furman Gardner, of Wadesboro, NC; W. P. Gardner, of Kokomo, Miss; Mrs. Calvin Sellers, and Sandy Purvis of Chesterfield and Mrs. J. W. Brigman of Rockingahm, NC. For several years Mrs. Gardner has been almost totally blind and in her affliction she exhibited a beautiful Christian spirit, and leaves an influence which will count in the coming years. [1][2]

Lavisa Gardner (nee Burr) was born 1 July 1834 and died 19 March 1916. She married John Nelson Gardner about 1855-1856. Their first child, a daughter was born in 1857.

Lavisa Gardner’s death certificate shows she died on 2 March
1916 (Thursday) and was buried on 3 March 1916 (Friday).
This conflict was the Obituary which states she died on
Sunday (19) and was buried on Tuesday (21).
Additional research is needed to clear up conflict in death
date.
