Vallentin <sic> BROCK arrived in Philadelphia on board the ship
Queen of Denmark, George Parish commander, from Rotterdam via Cowes, England,
and took the oaths with the other 98 adult [age 16 and older] male passengers
at the [old] courthouse on Friday 4 Oct 1751. Vallentin did not sign his
own name to the oath, but simply put his X next to what someone else wrote for
him.

James
L Brock born 1793 (#8 above) is believe to be a son of a Valentine Brock born 1765,
Cheraw District, Chesterfield, South Carolina. Due to a lack of record (burned
by Gen. Sherman) no proof has been found at this time.
Court documents in Hinds and Rankin County,
Mississippi shows that James L. Brock and his wife Elizabeth Purvis along
with Wright Barnes and his wife Nancy Purvis were involved in a disagreement within the family. Both are daughters of James F. Purvis, Sr. who died in Nov 1836, Rankin
County, Mississippi. James F. Purvis, Sr. and Gilbert Purvis, Sr. are brothers. [1]
Gilbert Johnson Purvis, Son of Gilbert Purvis, Sr. and Effica
Howell Purvis, in his Will left the following instructions:
Last Will and Testament of Gilbert
Johnson Purvis, states, in part, as follows. Property of Gilbert Johnson
Purvis, son of Gilbert Purvis, was in dispute with James P. J. Purvis and
William Purvis. It is my desire that my property to which I am entitled shall
be divided between all the children of James Purvis Sr. of Rankin Co. Miss, except to Wright
Barnes and Nancy his wife and James Brock and Betsy his wife, formerly Nancy
and Betsey Purvis to them I give and bequeath nothing. To Sally, my
sister, out of my estate the annual sum of One Hundred and Fifty to be paid to
the said Sally, every year, for and during the term of her natural life.[2]
