Extended family research is a lot like solving a big jigsaw puzzle. Each family members is unique just as each puzzle piece is unique. The uniqueness of the puzzle piece and the family member means they will only fit in one specific location both in the puzzle and in the family. It is through research, using the Genealogical Proof Standard (GPS), that we determine where the family member fits.
There is no
doubt that Valentine & Elizabeth Lundy Brock are descendants of the Brock of Chesterfield County,
South Carolina. Research thus far indicates that Elizabeth LUNDY married
Valentine Brock about 1807 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. This is
based on the birth of their first-born, a son named James Lundy Brock, born 8 September
1808.
Valentine Brock was born about before 1775 and died prior to the 1830 Census. He was 45+ in the 1820 Census for Chesterfield County, South Carolina. Sometime between 1820 and 1830 Valentine and Elizabeth moved from Chesterfield County, South Carolina and moved to Henry County, Georgia. He also died sometime during those 10 years. Elizabeth Lundy Brock was born 23 February 1780 and died 6 June 1855 in Henry County Georgia.
An 1865 Militia Census
for Henry County, Georgia clearly shows that James L. BROCK was born in
Chesterfield County, South Carolina.

I just found this and wanted to reply so I hope you still check on this page! Before Valentine married Elizabeth Lundy, he was married to Martha Parker. Their son James left South Carolina and settled in Pike County MS. My husband is a descendant of Valentine and Martha. I’ve been building his family tree and have quite a bit of documentation if you are missing any!

Kate,
ReplyDeleteI have found no proof of such. I have researched this line for 45 years. I think Valentine II, b. abt 1756 died 1822 in SC is the father of Valentine Brock, b. 1775-bef 1830 and the father of James Brock 1793-1871.
I haven't found a Martha Parker married to a Valentine Brock.
