When the Puzzle Piece Doesn't Fit...

The Brock’s of Chesterfield County are all related and descendants of a Valentine Brack/Brock.

While doing Civil War research I found a S. W. Brock and a Samuel W. Brock that died in the Civil War; along with a Samuel W. Brock that survived and received a pension from the Civil War.

1. Samuel W. Brock, Jr., b. 1830, died 15 June 1865
2. Samuel W. Brock, b. 15 Nov 1844, died 5 Feb 1924
3. S. W. Brock died of disease 30 November 1864

A look at the 1860 Census for Chesterfield County shows only two Samuel W. Brock’s in 1860 eligible to serve. There is no S. W. Brock listed in the Census for Chesterfield. The two Samuel W. Brock’s both served in the War. Samuel W. Brock, Jr. died of disease while serving in the War and Samuel W. Brock, son of Squire H. Brock, survived, returned to Chesterfield and died in 1924. [1]

1. Samuel W. Brock, Jr. b. abt 1830, died 15 June 1865
This Samuel Brock is the son of Samuel W. Brock, Sr., age 81, of Chesterfield.

DEATH: "Roll of the Dead" & "Broken Fortunes" by Randolph Kirkland, Jr. Page 39, Samuel W. BROCK, Pvt., 21st SCVI, age 35, Died 15 June 1865 at Charleston, SC. (Prob. Company D).

If Samuel died at age 35 then his birth year would have been 1830. Clearly enough evidence exists to prove that this Samuel W. Brock is Samuel W. Brock, Jr.

I have found no evidence the S. W. Brock above is connected in any way with the Brock‘s of Chesterfield County. The limited data I have does not contain enough clues to place him in my Brock Line. In the meantime, he will continue to reside in my database until additional information can be located.

The information/data we have is insufficient to attach S. W. Brock to a family in the database. Additional research and evidence is required to avoid a hasty incorrect conclusion.

If you have any information on the S. W. Brock listed above please contact me.
