This is a new series of posting, appearing every Sunday, on selected Estate Folders from the Estate files of Chesterfield County. No known estates exist for the period before the Civil War. They were destroyed with the burning of the Courthouse. There are a few “Equity Records” in the State Archives. Do not overlook this valuable resources if you are looking for ancestors in Chesterfield County, South Carolina.

Samuel W. Brock, Jr.
This estate folder begins at image #852 and ends with image #869. (images 852-869)
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-19384-40783-35?cc=1911928Samuel W. Brock, Jr. was born about 1830, a son of Samuel W. Brock, Sr., and his wife Martha. In January 1860 Samuel Jr. married a young lady named Ann whom last named is unknown. Before his death in the Civil War, Samuel and Ann had two sons; Thomas C. Brock in October 1860 and Samuel W. Brock III in March 1863.
On 30 November 1864, Samuel W. Brock, Jr. died of disease at Mt. Pleasant General Hospital, near Charleston, South Carolina.
On 12 November 1866, William P. Brock, brother of Samuel W. applied for “Letters of Administrations” on the Estate. (image 856). On 26 November 1855, Samuel P. White, Daniel McLauren Samuel Brock and William Lee were appointed appraisers of the estate. (image 854).
The sale of Samuel’s personally property took place in January 1867 with the majority of the items, though limited in numbers, going to the Widow, Ann Brock and Samuel’s brother Eli Brock.

On 16 March 1872, Ann Brock petitioned the Courts for $264.00 from the estate of Samuel Brock, money she had spent for the last 88 months (Nov. 1864-March 1872) caring for the sons of Samuel Brock, Thomas C. and Samuel W. Brock, III.

Samuel W. Brock, Jr. is my 1st cousin 4 times removed.
