Sophia Lavinia “Suffie” Furr is my 1st Cousin 3 times removed. She was born on 2 June 1868, a daughter of John Furr and Elizabeth Huneycutt.
Sophie was twice married.
Her first marriage occurred on 25 June 1898 when she married John D. Lentz. Sophia was age 30; John was age 49.
John and Sophie had four children before he died sometime before October 1905.
The children of John D. Lentz and Sophia Lavinia Furr are:
i. John Cecil Lentz was born in Jun 1899 in Albemarle, Stanly, North Carolina.
ii. Frances Lentz was born about 1901.
iii. Agnes Lentz was born about 1903.
iv. Arthur James Lentz was born on 7 Dec 1904. He died on 19 Mar 1978 at the age of 73.
After the death of her husband Sophie, with 4 small children needed a man in her life to help care for her and the children. She next married Thomas Jackson Kiser, a widower, on 21 October 1905 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina.
Thomas J. Kiser and his new bride were first enumerated in 1910, Cabarrus County, North Carolina where we find Thomas, his new bride, 4 step-children, and a new addition to the family, a daughter Betty Gladys Kiser, age 2.
Thomas and Sophia would have one other child during their time together a son, Charlie Cleveland Kiser born 8 December 1913.
While her two marriages were sort of short-lived; Sophia would live a long life of 84 years passing away on 27 February 1953 with pneumonia.
Thomas Jackson Kiser and Sophia Lavinia “Suffie” Furr are buried in the Roberta Baptist Church Cemetery, Concord, Cabarrus County, North Carolina.
