Sale of the Catfish Creek Plantation

On 28 February 1799, Thomas and Lewis Boatwright, brothers, along with Lewis Jr., son of Lewis Sr. sold their Catfish Creek plantation of 120 acres to Anthony Sweet for 100 pounds sterling money.

Anthony Sweet}  This Indenture made the twenty Seventh day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and Ninety Nine in the twenty third year of the Independence of the United States of America~ Between Lewis Boatwright Senr., Lewis Boatwright Junr and Thomas Boatwright of Catfish planters of the State aforesaid of the one part & Anthony Sweet Junr. of the Same place planters of the other part of the Said State and District of Georgetown, Witnefseth that they the Said Lewis Boatwright Senr., Lewis Boatwright Junr and Thomas Boatwright Junr for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds Sterling money to them in hand paid by the Said Anthony Sweet, Junr. at and before the Sealing Delivery of these presents, Hath Granted bargained and Sold and by these presents doth Grant bargain and Sell unto the Said Anthony Sweet Junr his heirs & Afsigns (pg 136) forever a Plantation or tract of land containing one hundred and Twenty acres (be the same more or lefs) laying and being on the North Side of Great Pee Dee River and South East Side of catfish Creek Bounding North West on Said Anthony Sweet Junr land Northward on William Boatwright land and South east on Henry Davis land and hath Such Shapes forms and Marks Butings & boundings as an Represented in the Original Platt Certified 22 days of March 1778 Being Originally Granted to Joseph Burch and Conveyed to John and Gavin Witherspoon from to Antony Sweet Senr from him to Said Lewis Boatwright Senr  To Have and To Hold the said plantation or tract of land one hundred and twenty acres of land be the Same more or lefs with all and Singular the Emoluments Privileges and Advantages thereunto belong to the said Antony Sweet his heirs and afsigns forever, and the Said Lewis Boatwright Senr., Lewis Boatwright Junr and Thomas Boatwright Junr. and their heirs Executors Administrators & afsigns and all other person or persons whatever unto the Said Antony Sweet Junr. his heirs and afsigns to his and their only his and behoof forever~ In Witnefs whereof they the Said Lewis Boatwright Senr., Lewis Boatwright Junr and Thomas Boatwright Junr. here unto have Set there hand and Seals the day and year first above Writen, Signed Sealed and Delivered in the presence of us}

  Personally appeared before me Thomas T. Wickham one of the Justices for said District Henry Davis who being duly sworn Sayeth that he was present and saw Lewis Boatwright Senr., Lewis Boatwright Junr and Thomas Boatwright Junr. Sign Seal & as their Act and Deed Deliver this Instrument of writing for the and  purpose Within and that he also Saw Stephen  (pg 137) Green Sign as the other Subscribing Witnefs to the within Instrument at the same time with himself, Signed and Sworn to the 16th day of October September 1799~~~~~

State of South Carolina Marion District. I Richard Taylor one of the Justices of the Governor do hereby Certify unto all whom it may concern that Mary Boatwright the Wife of Thomas Boatwright the within died this day appear before me and whom being privately and separately Examined buy me did declare that she does freely voluntarily and without any compulsion Dread or fear or any person whomsoever Renounce Release and forever Relinquish unto Anthony Sweet Junior the within named his heirs & asfigns all her interest and Estate and also her Right & Claim of dower of in, or to all her Interest & Singular the premises within mentioned and released unto Antony Sweet Junr. Given under my hand this 28th day of February 1800.

The wife of Lewis Boatwright, Jr. is my Great Grand Aunt. Lewis Jr. married Elizabeth Rebecca Davis about 1818. She is a daughter of Thomas Davis and Nancy Rivers, my 2nd Great Grandparents.
