Hugh Giles Fladger was born Oct. the 15th, 1844, and died suddenly in Wadesboro at the residence of Judge Bennett, Sept. the 2nd, 1882. He was raised in South Carolina, and was educated at Emery and Henry College Va. When a young man be came to Lilesville and opened a school which was a success and accomplished much good. For several years he was an efficient member of the Methodist E. Church, South, on the Lilesville Circuit. At the last District Conference, (Charlotte), he was elected delegate to the Annual Conference, leading the ticket. None took more interest in all the enterprises of the church than Bro. Fladger. He was always ready to respond liberally to all calls for help to promote the cause of Christ. He was a man of nigh order of mind and culture, which was seen as Superintendent of the Sabbath School at the Lilesville church, which "he conducted with decided success. Like all that is human, he had his weaknesses. As a friend, he was true to the last, and toward his enemies he was forgiving. In his death the community has lost a useful man in all the relations of life. He leaves a disconsolate widow, son, relatives and many friends to moan their loss, but we trust his eternal gain. O. J. Hugh Giles Fladger was born in South Carolina a son of Charles Joseph Fladger and Isabel Jane Grice. Hugh married Mary Thomas Liles, daughter of James D. Liles and Susan Brownfield Davis.
Hugh Giles Fladger is my 4th Cousin 3 times removed.
His wife, Mary Thomas Liles is my 3rd Cousin 4 times removed.
Both, Hugh Giles Fladger and Mary Thomas Liles are descendants of Evan Davis and James Rees, my 6th Great Grandparents.
