It’s Family Time~ 2nd Great Grand Uncle John Wiley Huneycut

My 2^nd Great Grand Uncle John Wiley Huneycut and his wife Betsy Love has been a very elusive couple. Thus, I have documented very little information about their lives at this point in time. 
 
John Wiley Huneycutt was born on 16 Jan 1823 in Montgomery County, North Carolina a son of Marcus I. Huneycutt and his wife Charity Dry. John Wiley was their first born child. ¹
 
John Wiley married Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Love on 22 December 1840.² John and Betsy can be found in the 1850 census for Stanly County and the 1870 Census for Union County, North Carolina. I have not found them in any other census. ^{3 4}
 

John Wiley Huneycutt and Elizabeth Love had the following children:
 
i. James Riley Huneycutt, born 11 Jan 1841, Stanly County, North Carolina; married Martha Elizabeth Speight, 1866; died 5 Jan 1915, Kannapolis, Cabarrus, North Carolina.
ii. John M. Huneycutt was born about 1844 in Stanly County, North Carolina. He served in the Civil War, enlisting on 25 Mar 1862 into Company 'H' 42nd NC Infantry (State Troops). John died on 20 Jun 1864 at the age of 20.⁵
iii. Mary C. Huneycutt was born about 1848. ^{6 7}
iv. Anora F. Huneycutt was born about 1846. ⁸
v. Tobias A. "Tobie" Huneycutt, born 5 Oct 1852, Stanly County, North Carolina; married Joannah S. Douglas, 1877; died 5 Apr 1930, Center, Stanly, North Carolina.

This indenture made the 13^th day of April in the year of our Lord 1844 between Demsey John Wiley Huneycutt of the state of N. Carolina & County of Stanly of the one part and Demsey Huneycutt Senr of the other part Witnefseth that for & in consideration of the sum of fifty dollars in hand paid before the sighning <sic> & sealing of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby fully acknowledged by him the said Dempsey Huneycutt hath given granted & sold and by these presents doth give grant bargain & sell unto the said John Wiley Huneycutt his heirs & assigns forever all that piece parcel plantation or tract of land and improvement situated in the county of Stanly on East prong of Island creek joining Samuel Hinson South east line Beginning at a stake at the Allenton road leading to Charlotte on John Peeks line running with his line north west 175 poles to a stake thence south East course 180 poles to a stake thence south 175 poles to a stake on the south side of the Allenton road thence a west course 175 poles to a stake thence 50 poles to the beginning containing 200 acres be the same more or lefs also with all ways waters water courses and every appurtenances thereunto belonging to have & to hold the said land and tenements unto him the said John Wilie Huneycutt his heirs exrs & adms & afsigns forever to the only – and behoof of the said John W. Huneycutt and the said Demsey Huneycutt himself and each of his heirs & afsigns doth forever warrant & defend – right and title of the land clear and free from him the said Demsey Huneycuttt his heirs & afsigns unto John W. Huneycutt his heirs forever whereunto I the said Dempsey Huneycutt hath hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal the day & year first above written.

This is the last known document that I have found for Dempsey Huneycutt, Sr.; it proves that on 13 April 1844 that he was still alive. Many family trees shows that he died in 1850. This date is suspect because if he had died in 1849 he would have been listed in the 1850 Mortality Census. His absence from the Mortality census suggest that he died between this deed (13 April 1844) and 31 December 1848.
