The destruction of the Chesterfield County Courthouse and the burning of its contents has made pre-civil war research in the County very problematic. Such is the case with George A. Parker, Sr. and his family.
George A. Parker, Sr was born between 1750 and 1760 based on Census data. His father is believed to be Stephen/Steven Parker.
George A. Parker was twice married. His first wife was Easter Brock, b. 1754–1765. [Note: There is a specific birth date for Easter recorded on family trees published online. This is not a PROVEN DATE and there is no source document to substantiate this date.]
His second marriage took place before 1830 to a lady by the given name Mary; her surname is unknown. In the 1830 census, Mary is listed as between the age of 40-49 making her birth year to be between 1781 and 1790.
George Parker and his family were enumerated in 1800, 1810, 1820 and 1830 Census. He is believed to have passed away shortly before January 1837.
Three newspaper clipping provides indirect evidence that George Parker died about this time.

Both tracts lying on Westfield’s Creek; one contains 130 acres more or less, bounded by the land of Rilah Smith, Geo. Gardner and others. The other tract contains 100 acres more or less, adjoining the lands of George Gardner, Samuel White and the estate of Erasmus Powe, dec’d.
Terms.-As much as will pay the expenses of the sale will be required in cash on the day of sale,the balance on a credit of one year, purchasers will give note and good security, with interest from the day of sale, and a mortgage on the premises if deemed necessary, to the Ordinary to secure the purchase money.

Treasure Chest Thursday~George Parker, Sr. Estate
George A. Parker was born about 1755+/- a few years and died about January 1837. Many of you know that records pre civil war are very scarce in Chesterfield County. Thus references to specific events are very desirable when they can be found.
This post contains two records of the Estate of George A. Parker, Sr.
The first document is this notice from the Cheraw Gazette of 28 March 1837. This document names his second wife Mary [LNU] and all surviving children of which one child, Jesse, lives outside of the State of South Carolina.

The second document also from the Cheraw Gazette is dated 19 April 1837 and is a notice of a Sheriff’s Sale of the Estate Lands of George Parker.

It’s Family Time~Phillip and Mary Gulledge Sellers
Phillip Sellers, Jr. son of Phillip Sellers Sr. and his wife Mary [LNU] was born about 1795 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. He was their 4th child. Phillip Jr. had 8 brothers and no known sisters.
In the mid-1820’s, Phillip Sellers, Jr. married Mary E. ‘Polly’ Gulledge, daughter of the Rev. Joel Gulledge and his wife Zilphia Huntley. To this union were born 5 children; 2 daughters and 3 sons.
Phillip was a farmer in Chesterfield and Anson County and left his Widow, Mary, a farm of two hundred and sixty eight (268) acres.
Phillip died sometime before 1850. His wife, Mary passed away on 31 August 1875. She left a Will naming her children and how the property was to be divided.

Philip Sellers and Mary E. Gulledge had the following children:
i. Mary Frances Sellers, born 1824, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married James Rex Moore Jr., abt 1846; died 1875.
ii. Phillip A. Sellers, born abt 1829, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Viny Phillips, 8 Mar 1860, Anson County, North Carolina; died 10 Aug 1862 in the Civil War at Petersburg, Virginia.
iii. Joel Sellers, born Jun 1831, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Rachel Phillips, 1865, Anson County, North Carolina; died bef 15 Jul 1912, Anson County, North Carolina.
iv. Elijah Sellers was born in 1832 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina. Killed at South Mountain, Maryland, September 14, 1862.
v. Martha E. Sellers, born 15 Oct 1837, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Robert Alexander Moore, 1859; died 11 Jan 1916, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.
Phillip Sellers, Jr. is my 1st Cousin 4 times removed.
