It’s Family Time~Nettie Gertrude Brock

Nettie Gertrude Brock was born on 5 Sep 1890, the first born child of Pleasant Elmore Brock and his wife Nancy Jane Davis.

She never married; spending her lifetime at home with her parents helping and caring as needed.  Her father Pleasant Elmore passed away in October 1926 leaving her Mother, Nancy, a widow. Her Mother, Nancy, passed away in May 1954.

Nettie Gertrude Brock died 27 November 1962 at the age of 72. She was buried with the family in the Zoar United Methodist Church Cemetery.
  
Nettie Gertrude Brock is my 1st Cousin twice removed.

Wednesday’s Child~Infant Son, of Pleas and Nancy J. Brock

Infant Son

d. Jun. 15, 1897

Pleasant Elmore Brock and Nancy Jane Davis were married in 1888 and their first born, a daughter, arrived in September 1890. When the above son arrived, Pleas and Nancy Brock had two sons and a daughter.

Records for this time period in Chesterfield County are scarce and it is not known why their young son died after a very short life of 4 months and 4 days. 

Three additional children, another daughter and two sons were born to this union.  
The unnamed son above was buried at Zoar United Methodist Church Cemetery.

It’s so sad to lose a child so quickly and so young. I know this was a great loss to my Great Grand Uncle and Aunt.

Tombstone Tuesday - Pleasant Elmore Brock

Pleasant "Pleas" Elmore Brock is my great grand Uncle; son of my 2nd Great Grandfather Hezekiah Brock.

Pleasant was born 16 April 1864 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. He was  a mere 10 months and 24 days old when his Father (Hezekiah) was taken from his farm by the Yankee Army on 12 March 1865. You can read about his Father capture here. When his Father died in Point Lookout, Maryland Civil War Prison on 12 June 1865; Pleasant was just over 1 year of age; 1 year,1 month and 27 days old.[1]

Note: There are conflicting dates for Pleasant birth date. The 1870 Census shows him as age 6. The 1900 Census shows his birth as April 1864; The Martin Family Bible shows his birth as 16 April 1864 and his tombstone shows his birth as 16 April 1860.[2][3]

Pleasant Elmore married Nancy Jane Davis, daughter of Charles Wesley Davis and Martha Elizabeth Odom about 1888 in Chesterfield, South Carolina. Their firstborn, a daughter, was born in September 1890 and over the next 12 years they had six more children for a total of seven – 4 sons and 3 daughters.

Pleasant Elmore Brock died on Monday, 25 October 1926 and was buried the next day, Tuesday, at Zoar United Methodist Church Cemetery in Chesterfield County, South Carolina.[4]
