1852 Land Deed~Asahel Six and Wife Sarah to Moses Brock

This indenture made the twenty eight day of December on the year of our Lord, One thousand eight hundred and fifty two between Asahel Six and Sarah Six his wife of the one party and Moses Brock of the other part all of the county of Hinds and State of Mississippi. Witnesseth that the said Asahel Six and Sarah Six for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and thirty seven dollars and fifty cents to them in hand paid by the said Moses Brock the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted, bargained and sold and by the presents do grant bargain quit convey deliver and confirm unto the said Moses Brock his heirs Executers, administrators & assigns forever all our portion Lot three divided interest claim or claims in and to the unsettled and undivided estate of William Brock late of Hinds county state of Mississippi, deceased. Especially all our interest in the Negro or mulatto man John belonging to said estate or the legal heirs of the same and all our interest in the money belonging to said estate amounting to three hundred and twenty dollars, more or less which is now in the hands of the said Moses Brock as the legal administrator of the said estate to have and to hold the interest of the said Asahel Six and Sarah Six his wife
in the estate aforesaid together with all profits and interest arising there from. In testimony whereof the said Asahel Six and Sarah does hereunto set their hands and affix their seals date first above written.

Williams a Justice of the Peace in and for said county the within named Asahel Six and Sarah Six his wife who personally acknowledge that they Signed sealed and delivers the within Deed Bill of Sale or Trust claim on the day and year therein written as their voluntary act and deed the said Sarah Six on a private Examination separate and apart from her said husband acknowledge that She Signed Sealed and delivered said Instrument of wording on the day and year therein mentioned fully as her voluntary act and Deed with any fear threats or compulsion of her husband.

Asahel Six, son of Phillip Six and his wife Charlotte Selsor was born 1806 in Mississippi. On 22 November 1838 Asahel married Sarah Brock, age 18, daughter of William Brock and his 1st wife Charlotte [LNU]. Asahel and Sarah had six children; 3 sons and 3 daughters.

Moses Brock mentioned in the deed is the son of William and Charlotte thus he is also Sarah’s brother.

Sarah and Moses Brock are my 1st Cousin 5 times removed; their father William Brock is my 4th Great Grand Uncle.

This deed of Conveyance made and entered into on this the seventeenth day of June AD one thousand eight hundred and seventy one by and between Elizabeth Brock wife of James Brock deceased., Valentine Brock, Eli Brock, Alex Brock, James Brock, Nancy Miller, Angeline Miller, Elizabeth Dillon, James T. Dillon, Jane Simmons, R. L. Miller, Elizabeth Purvis, T. J. Miller, Willis R. Simmons Thomas Hinston, J. B. Hinston and James Hinston, heirs at law of James Brock deceased of the first part and William Brock, of the second part. Witnesseth that the said parties of the first part for and in consideration of the Sum of One hundred and twenty-five dollars to them in hand paid by the party of the second part the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have this day Granted bargained sold conveyed and delivered and by these presents doth grant Bargain Sell convey and deliver unto the said Wm. This Land Deed dated 17 June 1871 was executed shortly after the death of James Brock. His widow, Mary Elizabeth Purvis Brock and her living children are named within the deed. Also named are grandchildren; children of a deceased daughter Rebecca, wife of Isham Brackin Hinson.

Land Deed~Philip Six to Lohama Brock

My 4th Great Granduncle William Brock moved his family from Chesterfield County, SC to Louisiana and finally settled in Hinds County, Mississippi. The first record of land purchase in Hinds County was between Valentine William Brock, son of William Brock, and  John H. Norland on 2 November 1835.
William’s son, Francis M. Brock married Lohama Six, daughter of Phillip Six and Charlotte Selser.  In Feb. 1847, Philip Six sold 160 62/100 acres of land to his daughter Lohama Brock and in the next deed on page 370 of Book 18, he also deeded land to his daughter Agnes Six Heard wife of Samuel S. Heard.

LAND: 1 Feb. 1847 – Philip Six to Lohama Brock – This Indenture made and entered into the first day of Feb. in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred forty-seven by Philip Six of the first part, and Lohama Brock of the second part. Witnessth that the said party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred dollars to him paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained sold and conveyed and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell and convey unto the aforesaid party of the second part, the following described piece or parcel of land viz the northwest quarter of section twenty two in township fourteen in range five east containing one hundred and sixty and 62/100 acres lying and being in Hinds County and State of Mississippi the right and claim to which said land with all improvements appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any way appertaining. I the said Philip Six do warrant and forever defend unto the aforesaid Lohama Brock and to his heirs forever and to none other, against myself, my heir’s assigns and all other persons claiming under me or in my name. It’s Family Time~Francis M. Brock and Lohoma Six

Sometime back in the early 1800 my 4th Great Grand Uncle left Chesterfield County with his family and moved to Hinds County, Mississippi.

I believe this migration occurred sometime around 1818 when Gilbert Purvis, James Purvis, Sr., Joseph Purvis, Henry Howell, William Brock, Valentine Brock and his wife Elizabeth Lundy and many other families left Chesterfield and migrated into Henry County, Georgia, onward to Clarke County, Alabama and finally settling in Mississippi..

William settles his wife Charlotte and his 7 children in hinds County, Mississippi. At the time of their settlement Francis and his baby sister were not yet born and Sarah would see the arrival of her baby brother, in 1823, at the tender age of three. 

Francis M. Brock was born about 1824 in Washington Parish, Louisiana. His father, William was a farmer and son Francis followed in his father's footsteps. In late 1843 or early 1844 (before 22 Jan 1844) his father would pass away. His Mother had already passed away sometime between 1830 and 1840 with his Father remarrying in September 1842. Tragically, the step-mother, Katherine Delilah Jordan, would also pass away before 22 December 1845.

Francis M. Brock would marry Lohama Six on 23 Dec 1840 in Hinds County, Mississippi. Lohama Six, was the daughter of Phillip Six and Charlotte Selser. Lohoma was born about 1820 in MS. She died about 1887 at the age of 67 in Cayuga, Hinds Co., MS.

Francis M. Brock and Lohama Six had one known child:

i. Emily "Emma" Brock, born abt 1842, MS; married David Henderson Larr.

Treasure Chest Thursday ~ Richard Johnson Brock Guardianship

Richard Johnson Brock, b. 2 July 1843, the only child of a 2nd marriage of his father William Brock to Katherine Delilah Jordan. Both his parents,William and Katherine, died before Richard’s third birthday. First his father died sometime before 22 June 1844 then his Mother passed away before 22 Dec 1845 as indicated in the petition herein.  

Richard had 7 other half-brothers and sisters; children of his father William and his first wife Charlotte, whom last name is unknown. 

William and Charlotte married before leaving Chesterfield County, South Carolina and 7 of their 9 children were born prior to their migration to Louisiana. Their last two were born in Louisiana and/or Mississippi. 

As indicated in the petition below, two of their nine children (John & Emily) died prior to January 1844.

The petition of Moses Brock, of Hinds County shows That William Brock, deceased, late of Hinds County left eight [8] children, all of whom are twenty one years age, except Richard J. Johnson, who is a minor under fourteen years of age. That said minor is possessed of a very small personal estate, consisting of live stock, & household furniture, estimated at about one hundred Dollars; and your petitioner is advised that a legal guardian is necessary for the protection of the interests of said minor, ----That your petitioner is the half-brother of said minor and his father & mother are both dead.
Petitioner therefore prays your honor to grant him letters of guardianship over the person & property of said minor. Petitioner offers Frost J. Kelly as his surety on the Guardian Bond.

About January 1844 William Brock, age 74, died and a short time later his second wife died leaving a surviving child age about 2 to 2 1/2 years old.

Sarah in the above deed is Sarah Brock daughter of William and his first wife Charlotte. She married Asael/Asahel SIX son of Phillip Six and Charlotte Selser on 22 November 1838 in Hinds County, Mississippi.

Moses Brock is also a son of William and Charlotte Brock and a brother to Sarah Brock Six.

This Deed is the result of action directed by the courts in the settlement of the Estate of William Brock.
