Tombstone Tuesday~John and Nancy Purvis

John William Purvis was the first born child of William James Purvis and Mary Hulda Previtte.
Previously, I wrote about my Grandparents William James and Mary Hulda here. In 1880, William James and Mary Hulda were newlywed living beside his parents William A. Purvis and Sarah James Graves Purvis.¹

It’s obvious now that Mary Hulda was  pregnant with her firstborn, James William Purvis; when the census taker was at their home in May of 1880.

James William Purvis was born on December 31, 1880 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina.²

In August 1901, John married Nancy Elizabeth Wallace, a daughter of Henry Hampton Wallace and Sarah Ann Ross. John and Nancy had five children, two sons and three daughters.³

Great Uncle John passed away on Saturday morning, August 11th, 1956 at his home in Morven, North Carolina.⁴ Then in July 1968, Nancy passes away in the Wadesboro Hospital after a lingering illness.⁵

John William and Nancy Elizabeth are buried in the Morven Cemetery, Morven, Anson County, North Carolina.⁶



John and Nancy are my Great Grand Uncle and Aunt.
