Amanuensis Monday~ Heirs of Samuel Boyd and Nancy Eleanor [Ingram] Boan
Amanuensis Monday is a genealogy blogging theme. It was started by John Newmark who writes the TransylvanianDutch blog.
His definition of Amanuensis is:
Amanuensis: A person employed to write what another dictates or to copy what has been written by another.
Today’s subject is the Heirs of Samuel Boyd and Nancy Eleanor [Ingram] Boan.1
Samuel Boyd Boan was born 3 September 1852, a son of Elijah Boan and Pearlie Artemus Pate. He married Nancy Eleanor Ingram in 1877. This union between Samuel and Nancy produced nine children; six sons and three daughters.
On 24 October 1918, Nancy Eleanor Ingram Boan passed away.2 Her husband, Samuel Boyd was named Executor of her estate. Before the estate was fully settled, Samuel Boyd Boan, Sr. passed away on 30 March 1921.3
After his death, the son Luther Boan was appointed administrator.

Hattie Turnage
I’m puzzled over how “Hattie Turnage” fits into this estate as an heir-at-large. In Nancy’s probate folder she named 8 of her 9 children; one daughter (Martha Jane died before 1900). Hattie Turnage was not mentioned within the estate.4 5
Further research tonight resulted in determining that Hattie Turnage was named in the Will of Samuel Boyd Boan, as the Infant daughter of W. F. Turnage. William Franklin Turnage married Hattie McBride and their daughter Hattie was born in 1905. She remained single and died at the age of 95 in 2001.
Luther Boan was discharged of his Executor’s duties on 20 October 1923.
