It’s Family Time~6th Great Grandfather-Evan Davis, Sr.
Evan Davis, Sr. is my 6th Great Grandfather and I know a little bit more about him and his two wives than I do about his son David, my 5th Great Grandfather. I wrote about David Davis yesterday and his wife Jane Miles.
Harry Alexander Davis in his book “The Davis Family (Davies and David) in Wales and America: Genealogy of Morgan David of Pennsylvania” published a lengthy introduction to the Evan Davis Family on page 9 of his book.A
Evan (David) Davis, Sr. was born in 1685 or 1686 in Merion, Montgomery, Pennsylvania. He died in Mar 1748 at the age of 63 in Craven County, South Carolina, British America.1–2
Evan left a WILL dated 21 Aug 1748 and died before the end of the year. His widow, Jane and son , Thomas, probated his his will in 1748 (Wills, Lib. K1, fol. 168). [Will Book K1, page 168].3 4

Evan DAVID, Senior. Pen. Hd. Aug. 21, 1748._____, 1748. G. 207. Eldest son, John David; son, Joshua David; daug. Margaret; wife Jane David; son, Thomas. Exc. wife, Jane David; Son, Thomas David.
Evan (David) Davis Sr. was first married to Jane Rees on 12 Jan 1711 in Merion Township, Bucks, Pennsylvania, British America.5 Jane Rees, daughter of William Rees and Mary Lewis, was born about 1693 in Merion, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, British America. She died on 1 Dec 1723 at the age of 30 in New Castle County, Delaware, British America. She left a Will dated 4 Jan 1774.
Evan David and Jane Rees had the following children:
i. John David, born 1714, Merion Township,Penn.; married Mary Tyson, Oct 1738; died 1779.
ii. David Davis, born Nov 1717, Merion Township, Pennsylvania, British America; married Jane Miles, Dec 1738, New Castle, British America; died 1793, Chesterfield County, South Carolina.
iii. Benjamin Davis, born 17 Jul 1719, Merion Township,Pennsylvania; married Rachel Port, 21 Feb 1748; died 27 Sep 1797, Queensborough, Craven, South Carolina.
iv. Evan David Jr., born 1722, Merion Township, Pennsylvania; married Mary Haughey, 1740; died abt 1787.
v. Child David was born in Nov 1723 in Merion Township, Pennsylvania. He died in Dec 1723 at the age of 0 in Merion Township, Pennsylvania.
After the unexpected death of his wife, Jane Rees, Evan (David) Davis Sr. married Jane Morgan in 1724 in New Castle, Delaware, British America.6
Jane Morgan was born about 1700. She died on 14 May 1740 at the age of 40 in New Castle, Delaware, British America.7
Evan David and Jane Morgan had the following children:
i. John Morgan David was born about 1725.
ii. Thomas David was born about 1727 in New Castle County, Delaware.
iii. Joshua David was born abt 173? in New Castle County, Delaware.
iv. Margaret David was born abt 173? in New Castle County, Delaware.
Evan Davis, Sr. is my 6th Great Grandfather.
