The State of South Carolina
To all to whom these presents may concern: I P. F. Spofford Esquire Sheriff of the County of Chesterfield in the State aforesaid Send Greetings: Whereas, by virtue of a writ of Fieri Facias, issued, out of the Court of Common Pleas, for the County of Chesterfield dated the fifteenth day of January in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy and returnable according to law, to me directed, and lodged in my Office on the fifteenth day of January one thousand eight hundred and seventy commanding me of the goods, chattels, houses, lands, and other hereditaments and real Estate of McCarroll Sellers to levy the sum of Five hundred and fifty nine dollars and forty eight cents debt and costs which George Jowers by the judgement of the Said Court at Chesterfield C. H. lately recovered against the said McCarroll Sellers. I have levied upon a certain tract of land, in the county of Chesterfield, aforesaid, herein after more particularly described and Whereas after due and legal notice, the said tract of one hundred, and Seventy-five acres of land More or less was on the Second day of September being the first Monday in the Said Month, between the hours of Eleven, in the forenoon, and three o'clock in the afternoon of that day at the Court House in Chesterfield openly, publicly, and fairly and according to usage and custom of ???, by me sold for and towards Satisfaction of the Said Judgement and Execution, unto George Jowers for the sum of of <sic> one Hundred Dollars, he being at that price the highest and last bidder for the Same. Now know ye, That I P. F. Spofford Sheriff as aforesaid, by virtue of the said Execution levy and Sale and of the Statute in such case made and provided and for and in consideration of the Said Sum of One Hundred Dollars to me in hand paid, or secured to be paid according to the terms of said Sale Have granted, bargained and Sold and by these presents do grant, Sell, and convey unto the Said George Jowers his heirs and assigns forever, All that certain tract of land Situate lying and being in the County of Chesterfield aforesaid, Containing one hundred and Seventy-five acres more or less, adjoining the lands of John S. Miller, Loyd Jordan and others. Together with all and Singular the members and appurtenances thereunto belonging, and all estate, title and interest which the Said McCarroll Sellers of right had in, and to the Same: To Have and To Hold, the Said premises, with the appurtenances, unto the Said George Jowers his heirs and assigns forever. In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this Twenty-fourth day of September in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and seventy-two and in the Ninety-Seventh year of the Sovereignty and Independence of the United States of America.
