William J. Gulledge Civil War Pension
William J. Gulledge was born about 1846, a son of William D. Gulledge and Martha A. Brock. His mother, Martha A. Brock was the daughter of Benjamin Brock and Temperance [LNU]. William J. were the oldest and first born child of William and Martha. William J. Gulledge had 10 siblings; 4 brothers and 6 sisters.
When the Civil War broke out, William J. Gulledge enlisted into Company "B", 57th Alabama on 6 May 1863.
After the war, William J. came home to marry Susan O. Hughes on 28 January 1866. in Pike County, Alabama.
In June 1903, William J. Gulledge made application for the Relief of Confederate Soldiers and Sailors.
After several iterations with the Pension Board, William J. Gulledge was approved for a pension.
In one instance, they referred to his military record as vague, uncertain and inaccurate. I can see why, I have found no record of him in the 57th Alabama.
William J. Gulledge is my 1st Cousin 3 times removed.
