It’s Family Time~Temperance Eddins and Moses Knight Family


Temperance Eddins, born about 1795, was the daughter of William B. Eddins and his wife Nancy [LNU]. In late 1819 or early 1820, Temperance married Moses Knight. Moses, born 30 January 1798, was a son of Richard Knight and Cynthia Parsons.

Moses married Temperance Eddins and together they reared a large family. He was a very successful farmer and highly respected citizen of the county.

Moses Knight and Temperance Eddins had the following children:

        i.    Andrew J. Knight, born 21 Nov 1820, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Jincy Hilton, 14 Apr 1844, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; died 18 Feb 1889, Lancaster County, South Carolina.
         ii.    Richard C. Knight, born abt 1822, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Sarah America Wimberly, abt 1848; died 22 Jun 1873.
         iii.    Synthia Matilda Knight, born 3 Oct 1824, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Frederick W. Rivers, 28 Jul 1844, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; died 27 Feb 1902, Houston, Winston County, Alabama.
         iv.    Nathaniel Knight was born about 1828 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.
         v.    Mary Jane Knight, born abt 1828, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Capt. Benjamin Thomas Davis, abt 1849, South Carolina.
         vi.    Elizabeth Knight, born Oct 1829, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Elisha Davis, abt 1850, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; died aft 1900.                                               
        vii.    William W. Knight was born about 1832 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.
         viii.    James P. Knight, born abt 1834, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Tabitha C. Gray, 28 Apr 1861.
         ix.    Moses E. Knight, born abt 1835, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Sarah M.; died 16 Feb 1913, Union County, Arkansas.
         x.    Killis H. Knight, born abt 1837, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Mary Jane Wilkes, 1860.


Temperance died sometime between 1870 and 1880. In 1880, Moses is living with his son, Andrew J. Knight and wife Jincy Hilton in Lancaster County, South Carolina. Moses Knight died on 14 Jul 1881 at the age of 83 in Lancaster County, South Carolina. Both are buried in the Fork Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery.


Temperance Eddins Knight is my 3rd Great Grandaunt.
