Hosick P. Purvis was borne 14 February 1885 in McFarlan, Anson County, North Carolina. He was a son of John P. Purvis and his wife Margaret Gulledge. Hosick was the third of 7 children borne to John and Margaret. He had 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
About 1908 Hosick married Mary A. Purvis; she had just turned thirteen. Mary A. Purvis was the daughter of Nicholas P. Purvis and his wife Annie Roscoe.
Hosick and Mary would spend their lifetime together until the death of Hosick in May 1942 and raised a family of at least 9 known children. There were 5 daughters and 4 sons. The oldest son, was John Wilson “J. W.” Purvis was born 17 September 1909.
John Wilson Purvis, at age 19 married Lela Tice on 29 Dec 1928 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. Lela Tice was the daughter of Franklin A. Tice and wife Bedie. [This surname is varying on documents from TICE to TYSON].
John Wilson and Lela had 8 children borne to this union of which the 1st and last; both daughters, died as infants.
Sometime after 1940 John Wilson Purvis moved his family to Hillsborough County, Florida. On-line documents show that he served as a crew member on ships between the USA and the Caribbean port of Curacao before his marriage to Lela.
John Wilson Purvis died 3 June 1973. His wife Lela Tyson Purvis died 5 January 1985. Both are buried in Hillsboro Memorial Cemetery, Brandon, Hillsborough County, Florida.

This was very cool to find. My great grandfather was John Wilson Purvis. His son (my grandfather) Johnny Ray Purvis raised me and we would go see the graves of both his parents John and Lela Purvis. Thanks for sharing this information!
