The Death of John Martin Boatwright

John Martin Boatwright was borne on 13 March 1826 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. He was the 3rd child of four borne to Drury Boatwright and his wife Levica  “Vicy”  Thurman.

As a young man he left home and migrated to Henry County, Alabama. There he met and married a young lady by the name of Eunice Atkinson, age 18, on 21 June 1846. Their first borne, a son Edmond W., arrived on 28 June 1847.

John Martin was a farmer but when war came he signed up with Co. "E", 6th Regt. Alabama Calvary. Surviving the war, he returned home and continue to farm the land. After the War, John Martin and Eunice added two additional daughters to their household bringing the total number of children to six; 3 sons and 3 daughter.

Their children were: 

         i.    Edmond W. Boatwright was born on 28 Jun 1847 in Judson, Henry Co., AL. He died on 6 Apr 1865 at the age of 17 in Civil War.
         ii.    Hiram Gilmore Boatwright, born 16 Oct 1849, Judson, Henry Co., AL; married Elizabeth Ida Bird, abt 1880; he died 27 Oct 1883, Judson, Henry Co., AL.
         iii.    Drewry Boatwright was born about 1852 in Judson, Henry Co., AL. He died before 1870.
         iv.    Mary Jane Boatwright, born 5 May 1856, Judson, Henry Co., AL; married Dr. John S. Bird, 30 Jan 1877, Hilliardsville, Henry Co., AL; died 13 Jan 1928.
         v.    Reubin Arcannie Boatwright, born 22 Oct 1861, Judson, Henry Co., AL; married Francis L. Woods, 1893; she died 25 Sep 1902, Texarkana, Texas.
        vi.    Elizabeth Boatwright was born about 1865 in Judson, Henry Co., AL. 9 She died after 1880.

Eunice Atkinson Boatwright, wife of John Martin, passed away on 30 September 1907.

John Martin Boatwright died on 9 Jan 1910. His death was reported in The Troy Messenger, Troy, Alabama, 19 January 1910, page 3, column 6.   


JOHN BOATWRIGHT DEAD.
Eufaula, Jan. 11. Information of the death, of John Boatwright, an old citizen who resided near Otho, has been received here. He was known throughout sections of this and other counties and had many friends in this city. Mr. Boatwright was 84 years old and had resided in that section the greater portion of his life. He reared a large family all of whom are grown and reside in sections of Texas and Florida. He is also survived by five grandsons and two granddaughters, one of the former now living in Montgomery. His body was taken yesterday to Judson Church, in Henry county, the burial was made.

John Martin Boatwright is buried in the Judson Baptist Church Cemetery, Screamer, Henry County, Alabama. 

His wife, Eunice Atkinson Boatwright is buried in the Old Judson Cemetery, Henry County, Alabama.
