Martin Daniel Sides was born about 1839, a son of Daniel Sides and Esther Dry. At age 23, he enlisted as a Private into Company "C", 48th Regiment on 1 August 1862. Captain A. M. Walker was commander of Company "C", 48th Regiment. Daniel M. Sides served in the CSA as Marion D. Sides.
He died at Paris, Virginia on 30 Oct 1862 of an unnamed disease.
I certify that Private Marion D. Sides enlisted in Captain A. M. Walkers Company C., 48th Regiment N.C. Troops on the 1st day of August 1862 and died on the 30th day of October 1862. He had received no pay. There is due him for clothing from the 1st of Aug 1862 to the 30th October 1861 also 3 months wages @11 per month.

Martin Daniel Sides is my 1st Cousin 4X Removed.
Note: The 1850 & 1860 Census shows him to be Daniel M. and Martin Sides. The CSA Document is the only document where he is referred to as Marion Sides.
