Death of Mrs. Caroline Cook

Caroline Cook was born Caroline McMillan on 15 April 1810 to the Reverend Malcolm McMillan and his wife Nancy [Last Name Unknown] of Telfair County Georgia.  At age 16, Caroline married the Reverend Murdock Murphy on 20 January 1827. Six years and two children later and Rev, Murdock Murphy passed away on 8 February 1833 in Wilcox County, Alabama leaving Caroline, a widow, with two young boys' under the age of five.

Arriving in Wilcox County about this time was the Daniel Cook, Jr family; a family of about six or maybe seven children. Daniel and his wife Martha Warren Norwood had migrated from Chesterfield County, South Carolina to Wilcox County. After arrival, four more children would be added to this family making the total eleven children's by the time of the 1840 census.

1840 wasn’t a good year for Daniel Cook, a farmer. With a house full of young children he lost his wife, Martha Warren (Norwood) Cook on 17 June 1840 after 22 years of marriage. 

On 19 September 1843, Daniel Cook, Jr. married Caroline (McMillan) Murphy. On 11 January 1878, Daniel Cook, Jr. passed away. 

  • Mr. Daniel Cook, Sr., of Wilcox, on the 11th inst. He had journeyed on earth 84 years, and departed respected and beloved by all who knew him. [ The Weekly Advertiser]

Caroline (McMillan Murphy) Cook celebrated her 86th birthday on 15 April and passed away on 19 June 1896 at her home in Cook Hill, Wilcox, Alabama


Death of Mrs. Caroline Cook
This most excellent lady, who for many years had resided in Wilcox county, died on Friday last, the 19th Inst., at her home in Possum Bend. Mrs. Cook was reared in Monroe county in the Flat Creek settlement, and was first married to Rev. Murdock Murphy, an elder brother of the Hon. John Murphy, who was for two terms Governor of this State. She subsequently married Mr. Call Murphy. She lived for several years In Clarke county, returning to Monroe county, after the death of her second husband. Mr. Neal Murphy, now deceased, was the only child by her first marriage. She afterwards married Mr. Daniel Cook, of Wilcox county, by which marriage she became the mother of Messrs. Frank and Daniel Cook, and Miss Caroline Cook, all of whom survive her. She was a member of the Presbyterian. Church, was a true Christian, and a devoted mother, who left the impression of her most amiable character on all her children. She died in the 86th year of her age, having lived a life full of good deeds of kindness and charity, and died honored and respected by all who knew her.

Caroline Cook was the 2nd wife of my 1st Cousin 6X Removed.
