IN MEMORIAM
Mary Ann McCown Cook
As the stars are the glory of the sky. so great men and women are t he glory of their country. One of the most beautiful stars in our firmament, as the star that has just been dimmed.
Her spirit still and bright, with something of an angel light has departed but a thousand sweet memories are holding her fast. She gave to her friends the dear treasures of her heart and soul. The shining radiance of her ideal southern womanhood will ever be an inspiration and an endearing influence in the lives of those whom knew her.
The greatest of all her virtues was Love. She loved Life, and she loved the things that made Life Beautiful. She followed in the footsteps of her Saviour, as she went about going good. As a devoted Mother, whose worth was, far above rubies, she has left her high standards as a rich heritage to her children. She gave unstintingly of her time and strength to her family, to her friends.
She loved her country; she loved her adopted State of Alabama; she loved the Southland and its rich traditions; she loved the Presbyterian church.
She has left her most lasting memorial in her deeds of love and kindness. While she was capable of doing big things, she never overlooked the little things.
"Green be the turf above thee,
Friend of my yester-days.
None knew thee but to love thee,
Nor named thee but to praise.
E. C.
Mary Ann McCown was the Wife of Frank Cook, my 2nd Cousin 5X Removed.
