During World War I, Sergt. William E. Sellers wrote this letter home from the European Front. William E. Sellers is the son of Charles Riley Sellers and Sara Ella Brock.

Will write you a short letter to let you know I am well and having very good time. I have been up the line on two tours of duty and was under a heavy artillery barrage for one-half hour at one time, but when the barrage was lifted for some reason or other the Huns did not come over as we were expecting. We have had very good luck up until now as we have not had a man wounded and I guess you can see in the papers that we have the Boche on the run, and we are going to keep them running. No lousy trench for the Americans (I forgot to tell you that I got lousy the first thing of the reel over here, the first time up the line). I do not think it will be very long before the American troops will be home again. Will write you all ever chance I have. Write me often.

Sergt. William E. Sellers, enlisted on 6 Mar 1915 and was discharged on 3 Dec 1918. During his service time he was awarded the Distinguish Service Cross. The Distinguished Service Cross (DSC) is the United States Army’s second highest military decoration for soldiers who display extraordinary heroism in combat with an armed enemy force.3
Sergt. William E. Sellers, died 8 April 1970 and was buried in Mount Comfort Cemetery, Fairfax County, Virginia.
Sergt. William E. Sellers is my 2nd Cousin Once Removed.
