Elijah Calvin Purvis was borne 18 February 1905 to Thomas Calvin Purvis and Roxie Waldrup. Elijah had one sibling, a younger sister, Bessie Lee Purvis who married Watt Thomas Deese. Tom Purvis was a farmer.
On 22 October 1921, Elijah Purvis, age 16 married Ada McDuffie, age 31. Ada McDuffie was born 10 May 1890 to Mary Frances Morris. Elijah also worked as a farmer or farm labor until about 1940 when he was employed at Kimberly Dairies in Cheraw, South Carolina. My father also worked at the dairy until the late 1940‘s when the dairy upgraded from manual milking to automation.
Elijah and Ada had one child, a son, who died on 6 September 1929, a day after he was born. No other children were born to this union.
Elijah Purvis died 26 March 1969 in Cheraw, South Carolina and buried at Sandy Plains Methodist Church Cemetery in Anson County, North Carolina.
Obituary:
MORVEN — Elijah Purvis, 64, died Wednesday. Funeral Friday at 2 p.m. at Sandy Plains Methodist Church. Survivors: wife; sister, Mrs. Watt Deese of Morven.
Ada (McDuffie) Purvis died November 1977 according to the Social Security Death Index. No tombstone or obituary has been found for Ada M. Purvis.
Ada (McDuffie) Purvis is my 1st Cousin 3X Removed.
