Dempsey Page was borne about 1815, a son of Uriah Page and his wife, Grace [Last Name Unknown]. Dempsey was Uriah and Gracey youngest known son. He had one known brother (Sion) and two sisters (Mary “Polly” & Nancy S.).
At age 28, Dempsey Page married Melinda Brumley on 27 September 1843 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina.
Dempsey Page and Melinda Brumly had a family of six (6) children; 2 sons and 4 daughters. Initial research seems to show that at least three of these children died before reaching adulthood. This may change as I continue to research this family.
i. Jane C. Page was born about 1845. She died before 1860.
ii. Mary Ann Page, born abt 1847; married Robert E. May, 23 Dec 1867, Rowan County, North Carolina; died aft 1886.
iii. Simon Peter Page was born about 1849. He died before 1860.
iv. Laura Elizabeth Page, born abt 1852, Rowan County, North Carolina; married Lewis Henry May, 27 Nov 1870, Rowan County, North Carolina; married John Alfred Clampet, 1879, Rowan County, North Carolina; died bef 21 Aug 1886, Rowan County, North Carolina.

vi. John Allison Page, born abt Mar/Apr 1860; married Laura Ann Foust, 17 Mar 1881, Rowan County, North Carolina; died Apr 1883, Rowan County, North Carolina.
In this Blog Post we will focus on their 4th borne child, Laura Elizabeth Page.
Laura Elizabeth Page was born abt 1852 in Rowan County, North Carolina. She was the fourth of six children borne to Dempsey Page and Melinda Brumley.
At age 18, Laura Elizabeth Page married Lewis Henry May, age 20. He like most young men of this era was a farmer or farm laborer.
May - Page Marriage |
Laura and Lewis would have 2 children of which only one survived before he (Lewis) died in October 1883. Probate records shows that Lewis Henry Day left two minor children, Lewis Henry and Dempsey Lee and that Guardianship was assigned by Court Order to their Mother Laura Elizabeth (Page) Clampit.
After the death of Lewis Henry Day, his widow, Laura Elizabeth (Page) Day married John Alfred Clampet in 1879.
