Be it remembered that heretofore to wit: at a court of Pleas and quarters sefsions begun and held at the Court House in Concord on the Third Monday of January 1837 and in the Sixty first year of American Independence ---

That at the Court aforesaid the following Wills Deeds and other instruments were recorded and ordered to be registered.
The last will and testament of Martin Dry was produced in open Court & duly proven by the Oath of P. Barringer a subscribing witnefs and the Executor there in named were qualified and received letters testamentary.
In the name of God Amen. I Martin Dry of the County of Cabarrus and State of North Carolina, being of sound mine and memory, but being weak in bodily strength and knowing as I do. That it is the lot of all men to die, do make & establish  this as my last will and testament viz: 1st I will and bequeath to my son John Dry the plantation whereon I now live lying on the east side of Dutch Buffalo Creek adjoining  Moses  Barrier, the lands of Andrew Dry Dec’d Owen Dry & George Dry containing one hundred and thirty nine and ¼ acres to him and his heirs forever, but the said John Dry is to pay to my Estate five hundred dollars at the end of twelve month after the death of me, and my wife Catherine Dry.
2nd I will and bequeath to my Son Peter Dry the plantation whereon he now lives adjoining George Dry, Esq, David Blackwelder and others containing containing one hundred and fifty acres, for which he has my deed by his paying twenty five dollars to his Brother John dry and twenty five dollars to his brother George Dry, after his mother’s death to him and his heirs forever-
3rd I will to Son John Dry the plantation whereon he now lives joining Daniel Peninger, Mike Stough and others containing ninety five acres to him and his heirs forever.
4th I will and bequeath to my Son George Dry the tract of land whereon he now lives for which he has my deed, containing two hundred and Fifty acres, joining Martin Hone, Henry Shod and others to him and his heirs forever.
5th I will and bequeath to my Son Martin Dry two hundred and fifty dollars it being money I have already advanced to him, two dollars I have neither note or receipt for and the other fifty dollars to be deducted our of a Hundred note I hold on him, these two hundred and fifty dollars I intend him in place of the lands I willed to my other Sons. the tract of land whereon he now lives for which he has my deed, containing two hundred and Fifty acres, joining Martin Hone, Henry Shod/Shoe and others to him and his heirs forever.
6th I will and bequeath to my son-in-law Mark Honeycutt the tract of land whereon he now lives lying on Meadow Creek joining Peter Teeter and others containing One hundred and fourteen acres but the said Mark Honeycutt must pay to my estate three hundred dollars. Then the Executor herein after names shall make him & his heirs a good and lawful deed, for the same, the money to be paid twelve months after the death of me and my wife Catherine Dry.
7th I will and bequeath to my son-in-law Jacob Kanoy the tract of land whereon he now lives containing two hundred and thirty three acres, adjoining George Eagle, Mathias Barringer and others on Bear Creek, but the said Jacob Canoy is to pay to my estate for said lands two years after the death of my wife the sum of three hundred dollars, to him and his heirs fore ever.
8th I will and bequeath to my Daughter Elizabeth Seater wife of Peter Teeter one hundred dollars.
9th I will and bequeath to my Daughter Catherine Layton one hundred dollars wife of John Layton.
10th I will and bequeath to my Daughter Sally Kanoy wife of Jacob Canoy one hundred dollars.
11th I will and bequeath to my Daughter Catroul Huneycutt wife of Mark Honeycutt one hundred dollars.
12th I will and bequeath to my Daughter Esther Sides wife of David Sides one hundred dollars.
13th It is my will and desire that after my death that all the property I die seized of & possessed of both real & personal be sold by my executor hereafter named (Exception / such household furniture as my wife Catherine Dry may a lot for her use during her natural life} to the highest bidder, at a reasonable credit and the money arising from the same & my notes # first to pay cash of my Daughters before named each one hundred dollars willed them, the balance to be equally divided among all my children Viz Peter, Martin, John, George, Elizabeth, Catherine, Sally, Catroul, & Esther or their lawful heirs.
14th I now nominate, constitute and appoint to this my last will and testament as executor my son Peter Dry & my son in law David Sides hereby revoking all former wills by me made, in witness where of I have hereunto set my hand & Seal this 26th day of September in the year of our Lord as 1836 Signed Sealed & Subscribed in presence of us.

Treasure Chest Thursday~Marriage Bond-George M. Dry and Mary ‘Polly’ Sides, 1822

George M. Dry, son of Johann Martin Dry and Catherine Keppel married Mary ‘Polly’ Sides, daughter of Christopher Sides and Mary Esther Lipe. 

They were married on 11 November 1822 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. George and Polly would raise a family of 9 children; 6 sons and 3 daughters. George passed away on 6 January 1857 at the rather young age of 57.  Polly is listed in the 1860 census for Stanly County as a 57 year old widow. She still has 3 of her 9 children living at home.
George is buried in the Palestine Methodist Church Cemetery, Stanly County, North Carolina.

I have not found a death date for Mary ‘Polly’ Sides and the 1860 Census is the last record I have for her. If you have additional information please contact me.

George M. Dry is my 3rd Great Grand Uncle.

It’s Family Time~Ann Elizabeth Dry Teeter

Ann Elizabeth Dry was born about 1787 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of Johann Martin Dry and Catherine Keppel. On 25 March 1809, at age 22, Elizabeth married Peter Teeter, son of Jacob Teeter.

Shortly after their marriage, Peter served a tour as a Private in the War of 1812. 

Between 1820 and 1840 Peter and Elizabeth along with their family of three sons and a daughter migrated to Pope County, Arkansas, settling in the Illinois township near Russellville, Arkansas. 

By 1850, all the children have left home and Peter and Elizabeth are enumerated in Russellville, Arkansas.   

1850 CENSUS: Pope County, Arkansas; Roll: M432_29; Image: 318, Page: 276A; Line 12, Dwelling 497, Family 497; Peter TEETER, male, age 62, Wheelwright, born in NC and Elizabeth TEETER, female, age 62, born in NC.
 
Then in 1859, Ann Elizabeth Dry Teeter passed away on 1 January 1859 and was buried in the Old Cove Cemetery, Russellville, Arkansas. I could not find a record of her death in the 1860 Mortality Schedule. 

After Ann Elizabeth's death, Peter found a younger lady to be his bride marrying Mary Nealy, age 47, on 3 Nov. 1859.

They are enumerated in the 1860 Pope County, Arkansas Census.

Peter Teeter died sometime after the enumeration of the 1860 Census. No record of his death has been found to date.

It’s Family Time~Johann Martin Dry and Catherine Keppel, My 4th Great Grandparents

During the latter part of 2015 I had a breakthrough in the research of my paternal Huneycutt line. After posting a query on Facebook, a  fellow genealogist sent me a link to a probate folder for the Father of James W. Huneycuut, my 2nd great grandfather. I knew that James W. Huneycutt was born in Cabarrus County, NC but his parents had eluded my attempts to find them for many years. This find and breakthrough has allowed me to add three generations to this line during the past six to eight weeks.

Today posting is about Johann Martin Dry and his wife Catherine Keppel. Martin and Catherine are the parents of Charity wife of Mark Huneycutt; the parents of James W. Huneycutt.

Johann Martin Dry was born on 10 Jul 1759 in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. ¹ He was baptized on 29 Jul 1759.² He appeared in census for Mecklenburg County and Cabarrus County, North Carolina from 1790 until 1830.^{3 4 5 6 7 8} He signed his will on 26 Sep 1836; a copy of which can be found in Volume 2 of the Pleas and Quarter Sessions Minutes for Cabarrus County, North Carolina. (Will of Martin Dry (PQS 2/405)).⁹

He died on 11 Dec 1836 at the age of 77 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina.^10 11

Johann Martin Dry and Catherine Keppel were married in 1785/6. Catherine Keppel was born in 1767. ^{12 13 14 15} She died about 1830 at the age of 63.
 
Johann Martin Dry and Catherine Keppel had the following children:

i. Ann Elizabeth Dry, born Mar 1787; married Peter Teeter, 25 Mar 1809, Cabarrus Country, North Carolina; died 1 Jan 1859, Russellville, Pope, Arkansas.
ii. Peter Dry, born 1787; married Hetty Elizabeth A. Teter, 11 Jul 1809; died 1854.
iii. Catherine Dry, born 1791; married John Laton, 10 Jun 1824, Montgomery County North Carolina; died 1857.
iv. John George Dry was born on 23 Apr 1799 in Concord, Cabarrus, North Carolina. He was baptized on 4 Aug 1799 in Concord, Cabarrus, NC. He died on 6 Jan 1857 at the age of 57
v. Sally Dry, born 1802, Rowan Co, North Carolina; married Jacob Kanoy; died aft 1872, Iredell Co, North Carolina.
vi. Charity Dry, born abt 1803; married Marcus I. Huneycutt, 18 Mar 1822, Cabarrus County, North Carolina; died bef 1880.
vii. George M. Dry was born in 1804.
viii. Esther Dry, born 1805; married David Sides; died aft 1880.
ix. Martin Dry was born (date unknown).

Martin Dry, my 4th Great Grandfather, received a 118 Acres Land Grant from the State of North Carolina on 10 December 1800 in Cabarrus County on the waters of Bear Creek. 

Martin was married to Catherine Keppel and they had nine children; four of which were born prior to obtaining this land grant.

Martin Dry was the son of Karl Charles Dry and his wife Christina Muss. Martin was born 10 July 1759 in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. He was one of five known children. Martin married Catherine Keppel in 1785/86. They had nine children all named within this Will; five daughters, Elizabeth, Catherine, Sally, Charity and Esther and four sons, John, George, Martin and Peter, his Executor.  

Martin died 11 December 1836 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. His tombstone can be found in the Saint Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Martin and Catherine Keppel Dry are my 4th Great Grandparents.

Treasure Chest Thursday~John Laton–War of 1812

 Transcription:

That her said husband volunteered at Old Henderson , on or about the ________________, 18___, for the term of six months, and continued in actual service in the said war for the term of six months and was honorably discharged at Salisbury, on or about ______________________.
She further states that she was married to the said John Laton in Montgomery County now Stanly County on or about 10^th June 1824 by one John Kendall who was, a Justice of the peace, and that her name before her marriage was Catherine Dry, and that her husband died in July 1852.

John Laton died in July 1852 and the land he received was sold by his executor. On 5 June 1855, after his death, Catherine Dry, his wife, daughter of Martin Dry and Catherine Keppel made application for a Bounty Land Warrant for herself based his service in the War of 1812.  This is a portion of that document which can be found on Fold3.com at https://fold3.com/image/1/315053485
