In this posting I will share two of the 64 images that are part of Probate File # 160 – Charlotte Hurst Davis, wife of John Calvin Davis.
State of South Carolina} Petition for Letters
County of Chesterfield} of Administration
To D. M. Barentine Judge of probate for Chesterfield County
The undersigned respectfully shows to the Court
1st That Charlotte Davis late of the County of Chesterfield died in Darlington county on the 2nd day of June 1888 leaving an Estate both real and personal in the county of Chesterfield
The personal estate of which amounts to about one thousand dollars
2nd That letter of Administration has not been granted to anyone
3rd That your petitioner is the Son of Said Charlotte Davis
4th That your petitioner prays that letters of Administrations may issue to him in order that said estate may be settled according to law and you petitioner will ever pray &c

Know all men by these Presents that We the under signed Heirs of the Estate of the late Charlotte Davis Deceased have appointed J. W. Davis to take charge of and settle up the aforesaid Estate of Charlotte Davis

John Calvin and Charlotte Hurst Davis had twelve (12) children yet only 9 of those 12 are named within the documents above.
Two sons, Thomas P. Davis, James A. Davis and her husband John Calvin Davis all died prior to Charlotte’s death. Not listed above is John Wesley Davis, but as administrator, he is definitely present.
Not mentioned on the heirs list above is daughter Mary Ann Davis and I am not sure why she is not mentioned.
