Amy Johnson Crow of No Story To Small has started a challenge of 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks.
From her blog “The challenge: have one blog post each week devoted to a specific ancestor. It could be a story, a biography, a photograph, an outline of a research problem — anything that focuses on one ancestor. Not only should this get me blogging more, but also to take a deeper look at some of the people in my family tree.”

The focus of my posting today is my 3rd Great Grand Uncle by marriage – John H. Wadsworth.

John H. Wadsworth was born in 1793, his parents are unknown. John married my 3rd Great Grand Aunt Susannah Davis about 1819-1820.  John and Susannah had two known children – Lewis H.. b. 13 Sept. 1832 and Mary Elizabeth Wadsworth, b. abt 1835. 1

He first appeared in the 1820 Census for Chesterfield County, South Carolina married to my great Aunt. Based on later censuses, Lewis was born in 1793 and Susannah in 1794. The household composition for 1820 & 1830 show other members in the household that couldn't possibly be Lewis and Susannah based on their age and dates of birth.2 3

Susannah Davis Wadsworth, age 26

The 4 males, age 10-25 and the female 16-25 cannot be the children of Lewis & Susannah nor have they been identified.

Susannah was last enumerated in the 1870 Census dying sometime between 1870 and 1879. John H. Wadsworth, age 77+, remarried after the death of Susannah to lady called Mary LNU.  Mary was born in 1852 and with Mary he had two additional daughters -  Sarah Christian, b. Nov 1879 and Susannah Wadsworth. The three females in this family have been lost, mostly likely due to marriages. Sarah Christian & Susannah did purchase 97 acres off land  in Anson County, NC, from Alexander Martian in January 1886. 5 6 7

John and Mary are listed in the 1880 Census as husband and wife. He died sometime after February 1880. No death certificate, obituary or tombstone has been found for John H. Wadsworth. 8

If anyone have additional information about John H. and Susannah Davis Wadsworth, I would love to hear from you.
