Featured Family~John W. and Mary Abigail Sellers Brock

John W. Brock was born on 1 Sep 1847¹ in Chesterfield County, South Carolina, a son of Squire H. Brock and his wife Rachel Parker. 

Mary Abigail Sellers was born on 24 Mar 1848² in Madison County, Tennessee, United States. Mary’s father was killed in Tennessee in an accident and the family returned to Chesterfield County, South Carolina about 1854-55. 

John W. Brock and Mary Abigail Sellers were married on 14 Mar 1869 in Cheraw, Chesterfield, South Carolina.³
 
John and Mary only had one child who died young. He and Mary lived their their entire lifetime in the Courthouse township where he was a farmer.  

The Family Bible shows a Mary R. E. Brock b. 12 July 1881 and died 22 May 1884. This is believed to be John and Mary Abigail’s daughter, their only child.⁴

John W. Brock passed away on 30 August 1895 in Cheraw, South Carolina. His death date is recorded in a Family Bible owned by my mother. No tombstone has been found for John or Mary Abigail but there are believed to be buried in Zoar UMC Cemetery.⁵
After John’s death in 1895, his widow, Mary Abigail went to live with my great grandparent Benjamin Franklin Brock and his wife Louise Ellen Sellers Brock. Louise Ellen and Mary Abigail were sisters, Mary being the oldest.⁶


Mary Abigail Sellers Brock died on 3 May 1907 in Cheraw, South Carolina. <sup>7
