Mattie Reily Rivers, daughter of Isaac Berkley Rivers and Effie Wadsworth was born 10 July 1885 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. She was the 2nd born of nine children with 4 sisters and 4 brothers as siblings.
On 5 May 1907, Mattie Rivers married James E. Caudle in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.
To this union was born three known children:
- Otis James Caudle
- Essie Marie Caudle
- Thomas Caudle
On 3 December 1923, James E. Caudle, husband of Mattie Rivers, died suddenly leaving her a widow with three small children.
Then in April 1934, Mattie passed away and the rather young age of 48. The cause of death was listed as myocarditis.
James and Mattie are both buried in West Concord Cemetery, Concord, Cabarrus County, North Carolina.
